FFXIV lacks the substance and depth for PvP to get by on it's own so they invented a useless grind for gear progression to try to keep people playing it's PvP via carrot and stick. Some people are going to resist any change as they already put in time to get their flashy gear, before it gave them an big advantage in Wolves Den and since a lot more people are playing Frontlines for fun and fairness the unique look is pretty much all they have left. As I recall the reason for the PvE styled gear was an attempt to entice PvE players to play more PvP.

Your best bet is to come up with a solution that has that in mind but would change it to better PvP as a whole. I can't see SE doing major revamps, generally when we get a new system like hunts or synthesis we are pretty much stuck with it.

THANK YOU Niro and Sky. I really like pvp and I really like FF so I'm going to hold out hope until 3.0 releases. If nothing major changes after that I wont be returning. Sky, I've been grinding FLs 24/7 since I hit 50 and I'm only rank 27 and havent gotten any gear in a long time. Even if the requirements was slightly lowered so I received one piece every 2 or so levels I would be content but there's a huge grind gap between the ilvl90 and ilvl100 gear. I know this isn't my imagination because Yoshi himself has acknowledged the grind problem in this game and has said 3.0 will have "shortcuts" to lower time. I would just like some semblance of progress no matter how slight.

You have skill progression every 4 ranks you get a skill upgrade. You can also work on building a PvP set with roughly 360ish accuracy and the off stats of your choice. That's what I worked on and it felt like progress. I got most of the gear from PvP and a few pieces from pve with tombs. My ninja is super twinked and I can three shot casters when I pop CDs. Progress is in the eyes of the beholder.

Pvp gear was tailored for WD and not FL.
Since no one really does WD anymore, ppl who worked hard for their gear can only cherish the vanity gear they have left. It used to make u stand out in WD but now ur just some random guy in FL.
Also the fact that this game pvp is pretty difficult to access on a regular basis as to oppose other games i guess. So all the difficulty in leveling up is technically just getting into matches rather than WD fast qeues but required a LOT of wins = required x10 amount of skill than Fl slaughter.
FL secure had a hype moment so everyone bum rushed in those months to catch up due to the good exp and marks it gave.

The grind is real but the victories from skill is not, its just exploit anything to win till Se addresses it.

True. I've already upgraded the essential skills though. So now I'm just dumping points into Vitality, Mind, and Piety at the moment.

I can provide LOTS of examples of why pvp110 gear is BIS even in frontlines but my favorite is warrior gear. Please let me know what warrior gear is better than PvP110 in frontlines for maximum damage build. There is clear progression if you have a clear understanding of how sync works in FL and what stats are BIS.

@Tessa Gray the pvp i100 and i110 gear will be better for you than your current i90 PvP set due to how the off stats cap in FL it will be marginal but it Is better. SE designed it this way on purpose because so many care bears were saying the progression that use to exist made veterans too OP

Honestly if your using gear to circumvent skill then your better off without it.

I think the system is fine how it is. If anything I'd like to see rank or gear be even harder to obtain but also provide a larger advantage to player who have taken the time to get it.

I'm not getting how your fine with this as a PvP'er. I've seen other people in these forums make the same statement and it still confuses me. You want to be stronger because you have a bigger time investment then your opponent, I've come from other games (some that were PvP focus and some that were not focused on PvP) and pretty much the majority of them were not gear focused yet some of them still had a ranking system. It seems like you don't want a fair fight where individual skill separates who wins and who loses but you want a fight where if you played longer (regardless of the amount of skill you have) you should have the advantage over the enemy that has lesser gear (even if the enemy is of equal skill to your own or might even be more skilled and therefore would have won on even terms).

Personally I don't get this as someone who has PvP'ed in pretty much all online games I've come across, the only thing a time investment granted me was more experience with the map, character and class skills. If I won that generally meant I was more skilled then the other player and if I lost then I would continue to improve by learning over time or from my enemies. My player progression was that if I was destroyed by a certain player 2 weeks ago and fought them again and won, I progressed as a PvP'er. Like a sport the games had a set of rules and limitations, what decided the outcome was the individual players not if someone had a better tennis racket or something.

Is gear progression in PvP the "new" thing these days or is FFXIV PvP really that bland and easy that the only difference between two opponents in a fight in this game is their gear? If someone could tell me why gear progression in PvP is actually important to warrant the segregation of players and making it harder for new players to get into FFXIV's PvP because right now it's confusing as hell and only hurts the PvP population.
