There is absolutely nothing to stop anyone from forming a static and doing the same content with the same people if they wanted to regardless if weekly lockouts were in place.
It wouldn't which was exactly my point, if hard mode Alexander is as difficult as some rumors are suggesting it will be static only on difficulty alone. But people think that if it wasn't for the lock out all those groups would open up and pugs will be paradise. Pugs are damn harsh on hard content, and the focus on statics is just a scapegoat that helps people ignore that there might be other reasons why people don't want to raid with them.

Also if there is something that I would describe as strong bonds and friendship it is 8 man raiding. Stuff like 40 man raiding is just a mess, people don't even know everyone's names a lot of the time. It's suspect when people who have trouble fitting in for some reason hate so much on people who have tightly bonded with other players.

The alternate to statics are NOT pugs! You could very well have 12 very good people all in your FC that you would like to play with regularly. If lockouts were removed, people are going to field players from their FC well before they even consider a pug. That is the exact goal of the proposed changes! To allow more people to play with the people they want to, not screw 4 of your FC mates every week and make them go find a PUG themselves to finish the content for that week.

SE has done good loot systems before: Neo Nyzul Island had a great progressive system in 11. The respective bosses dropped armor for this lvl and a token for an item a lvl above them. Ex. lvl20 boss dropped at random lvl20 armor but also a lvl40 token. The token system is described below.

    Astraria

Upon defeating a boss from a specific floor a set number of times, players will be rewarded with a part of an astrarium which can be redeemed for one piece of armor from the next higher boss floor (except Platinum Astrarium). Astraria can be redeemed for the associated rewards at the NPC Berangere in Aht Urhgan Whitegate (L-9). One part of an astrarium is obtained in addition to the armor which normally drops from boss battles. After defeating a boss, a message will be displayed showing how many parts of that floor's astrarium you have in possession, and this can also be checked at Berangere. Astraria must be redeemed before they can be re-acquired (you can only possess one of each).

Bronze astrarium (+1 armor): Defeat floor 20 boss 5 times.
Silver astrarium (+2 armor): Defeat floor 40 boss 5 times.
Mythril astrarium (+3 armor): Defeat floor 60 boss 5 times.
Gold astrarium (HQ armor): Defeat floor 80 boss 5 times.
Platinum astrarium (HQ armor): Defeat floor 100 boss once.

    Hi SirTaint,

I never played Nyzul, but it sounds interesting. So was this "Bronze astrarium (+1 armor)" or "Silver", etc., pretty good / end-game caliber armor? Or was it only worth it to get the Gold and Platinum stuff?

    Thanks.

I remember the fights in 1.xx they were fun they were also much harder than the ones we have now and I remember being so frustrated when we got it done only thing to drop was dark matter was very frustrating loot system here is fine no tokens from raids please also just adjust it so stuff only drops for what ever job is in the party that's the only fix it needs for 8 man raid lock outs.

FFXI was a horizontal progression game. Items from 2004 were still relevant in 2013. A nyzul system would be even easier in FFXIV.

    Floor 20 = i110
    Floor 40 = i120
    Floor 60 = i130
    Floor 80 = i140
    Floor 100 = i150

This would allow brand new players to get gear and would allow top raid groups to get gear. As groups got better they would progressively grow in strength.

Would also allow them to ignore all other content in favor of this singular system. Not necessarily a good thing. I'd support a nyzul type dungeon, but it's got to be more balanced with the rest of the game.
