Love scholar, really want to play summoner. I know I can reset bonus points for 250 grand company seal, but I gotta do that every time I switch class.
It's like having a splinter stuck under your feet, you can still walk, but it's friggin' annoy.

Actually, I tested this out to figure out where the points should be placed; the first 30 anyway. FYI I main as a Scholar/Summoner. Anyway the points should go into Intelligence, not Mind, if you plan on playing both. If you plan on only being a Scholar then by all means place them in mind. The reason for this is when all 30 points are placed in intelligence you do an additional 13-20 points of damage per tick, not counting crits, which totals about an additional 130-200 points of damage per DoT, which is an additional 390-600 points of damage without any buffs or crits.
Continued in next post, argh character limits.
However, if you place the points in mind you only do about an additional 40-65 points of healing, again without crits or buffs. It's easy to see that the additional damage greatly outways the additional healing. Now I will say that the gear someone has equiped will alter these numbers a bit. Note that my two jobs are on par with one another, same ilevel equipment and everything so it's not like my Summoner was i110 but my Scholar was i95, they were both i112 at the time.
I hope this helps you a bit, while I cannot say that this point allocation will continue as it is now, I can say with certainty that until Heavensward is released Intelligence is the way to go.

Hey thanks, its very helpful.
Summoner and Scholar need to have separate Base Classes. Scholar should stay branched from Arcanist since they have priority when using utility and Summoner should separate from the Arcanist and become its own entity.
Actually if you think about it summoner and scholar having the same base class makes sense, both for this game and from a final fantasy history perspective. Since in most incarnations each class specializes in one aspect but minors in the other.
Personally, I would like to see more branching jobs. Granted I think the Whole base system could've been implemented differently, but it's different. I mean I'm sure lots lg people could see Conjurer turning into a Geomancer, Pugilist becoming a Puppetmaster or Dancer, Archer turning into Ranger, Gladiator becoming a Mystic/Ruin Knight, even DarkmKnight could of branched off from Lancer; plenty of DKs have used lances in the past. There are plenty of jobs in Final Fantasy and a lot of them overlap with others.
Since Summoner and Scholar didn't turn out how Yoshi intended SE decided to not continue branching jobs off the same base class. That's in heavensward they are just making advanced jobs. Personally I think SE should make Summoner an advanced job and make the Red Mage the DoT DPS.Actually if you think about it summoner and scholar having the same base class makes sense, both for this game and from a final fantasy history perspective. Wait how did he want them to turn out, I've never heard any complaints. Is there anything that shows this if you wouldn't mind showing me, a document or something.Since Summoner and Scholar didn't turn out how Yoshi intended SE decided to not continue branching jobs off the same base class. The new jobs in Heavensward do not have bases classes otherwise the Dark Knight would branch off the Gladiator Machinist off of Pugulist and Astroligan off of Arcanist but since base classes limit what jobs can do Yoshi decided against it and just made advanced jobs.
Sorry but that didn't really answer my question. I was asking for something that shows why they aren't going forward with any more base classes, Heavensward itself doesn't count. I think the system has promise just that it might need to be retweaked, like maybe the job starts at 30 with newer abilities every few levels, not just every 5 levels, and only abilities prior to 30 are class based. Also saying what jobs would branch off each class is speculation, since they could add a completely new class like Rogue did for Ninja. I' not saying base classes limit things only that they provide a more unique take then regular jobs.
