3rd Retainer by Default, please?

As a hoarder, I'd like to be able to buy a 5th+ retainer.

If you need another retainer, buy one from the retainer services. If you don't want to buy one, get rid of some of your stuff. How the hell are you even filling them up? I can understand for marketboards, but then just wait as things sell off.

The only extra space that makes sense to add in the upcoming expansion would be expand our Armory Chest by 5 slots per equipment piece. But even then, just manage your stuff, stop hoarding. I have inventory shortage and i bought an extra retainer but I KNOW its my own fault for not wanting to throw out equipment. I just wish there was something we could do with some equipment other than toss it. Got some i50+ gear that I cant break down, can't sell at MW, and my only other option is to toss it or sell it for 50g at a vendor. Regarding that point though, I havent gotten to the desynthing part yet. Can you desynth ANY gear?

I'm not against this. But I'm not for this. Asking for a 3rd retainer by default is just going to spit in the face of people who already paid for their third retainer already. It would be a huge backfire and SE isn't going to be giving refunds any time soon. It's either you buy a retainer or make an alt. Pick your poison.

As someone who would consider myself a gear hoarder that thinks in "what if"s...
I'd like to be able to hang onto old gear for future classes, but still have room for new junk that keeps rolling in. xD Old non-50 THM robes, etc? Toss it on ARC. Old ninja dex gear? Toss it on archer (and probably later, Machinist). Some of my old conj/WHM stuff went on my SCH - same with some of my MNK stuff on my LNC. Glad and Marauder kinda share, too. Same with my crafters! And the new classes coming out! Arf! All the mind gear on my AST! All my tank gear on my DRK! All my.... well, I don't know... dex and/or str stuff on my MACH! RECYCLE ALL THE THINGS! @o@ ....*taken away by the Eorzeans in white* I do turn some of my 'meh' or doubles into materia, but... I don't wanna spend money re-buying HQ gear or hunting Aetherial gear later for my noobs when I can just grab and equip it. (I was originally leveling all my magic using jobs just so I can turn the no-longer-useful-anywhere int/mind gear into materia.... and then they brought out news of the new jobs >.>)

Same thing with the crafting stuff.... "WHAT IF I NEED TO CRAFT----- WHEN I GET THE LAST ------- PIECE FOR THAT [insert fancy furniture/armor crafting item here]". *palmface at self*

...but seriously - I also have a lot of crap that I can't put in the armoire (I tried) - the 46785687 colored dragon/horse/rabbit/sheep helmits, earrings, etc event stuff (I just noticed they added all that to the cash shop, too o_o).
I'd love to put my old classic WHM robe stuff in the armoire, too, for remniscence sake (have to admit, the white and red is one of the iconic gears of the old FF games o.o).

I should probably just get a third retainer.... but I would so be down for a quest for a third retainer. I would do it in a heartbeat. I would throw myself at Titan EX for it. :| ....maybe not T5 (*hides under rock after the last bunch of attempts*), but I'd throw myself at Titan EX! (lost cause if it required completing FCOB though...)

There seems to be a big discussion about this... i remember hearing or reading somewhere we would be getting another retainer, because the inventory expansion is currently non-viable, i was said Yoshi but i can't remember where.

Also, extra retainers are a temporal service, you pay to have them for a specific period of time, SE doesn't have to offer refunds, unless they manage it poorly, not making us know about the change or letting the players get retainers in a period of time shorter than 30 days before the release of the 3rd retainer.

I agree with this (after reading your post... and after already posting mine x.x). If I did pay for a third retainer, then suddenly all is free, I'd be pissed. Only way they would be able to make up for it is if they got a free retainer on top of their already paid - but even then, they may not even need that new fourth. I'd still be pissed.

but yeah, it'a bit of a pickle. So many people would be happy; so many people would be angry (rightfully)

what if the free retainers only offered half the amount of space? Or lacked other retainer abilities? (ventures, etc)

Prorating wouldn't be too hard, and they could easily avoid the most of it by announcing a 3rd retainer is coming free-of-charge in just over a month to everybody, even sooner for those who currently have a paid-retainer.

It's not a spit in the face to say, "hey, you don't have to pay anymore!" if a bonus is provided for past spenders or pro-ration occurs.

Seriously, let's say your grocery rewards card costs $ monthly & they announce to everybody that we're now making it free to everybody, no strings attached.

Really, is that really worthy of complaint? Especially if they provide some sort of simple, generous thank you to those who've paid faithfully in the past.

That's like saying (rage), "THANKS A LOT SE for reducing the subscription fee after I've been paying $15/mo. for a year straight!"

You received what you paid for in the time that it cost, that was your choice. Now, if it's to become free, simply receive it with gladness.

Shoot, I pay for a third Retainer right now & I'd be happy to not have to pay anymore; I'd be happy for everybody, but maybe that's just me.

SE still has to pay for that extra server space then... "We know you're having problems giving us inventory space, so just give us inventory space!" Like, sure, an extra retainer would be cool, but just suggesting that doesn't actually address any of the issues SE is having.

I support a 3rd additional retainer via quest. And to be honest the expansion is just the place to do it(infact I'd say every expansion should add 1). As an alternative to needing to store each and every piece of glamour gear - give us a gear and weapons book where we can collect various items we only keep for glamour - aka we obtain the gear it unlocks in the book and then we can use the book data to apply to glamour prisms(should take less DB storage as well since it would be just a link to the base item instead of having spiritbonding and other metadata attached).

I like this glamour book idea. it will clean out lots spaces from my retainer.
also, for these things that we can't convert, why give them the spiritbinding value for server to store down? I'm not data expert tho. I don't know remove these will make data storage easier.
