3rd Retainer by Default, please?

I have four retainers, and I see no issue with this beyond people taking this as an advantage to request the fourth one free too, but that's an issue with the community, not this idea.

But I'll let you in on one thing...

All of my retainers are full...

As much as I would love to have a 3rd retainer for free (my entertainment budget doesn't have the wiggle room for a subscription fee AND additional rental retainers), just so I can have a retainer from every major city and put that nagging bit of OCD in me to rest, I don't see it happening.

A person can easily fill their market slots by using the market tactic of buying out something that's going for cheap and re-selling it at a higher price. The less market slots, the less a person can control the market by buying out the competition so that they can gouge the real buyers at inflated prices.

I have all 4 retainers. If SE changed and said, "Hey, your 3rd is now free!" I wouldn't bitch at all about the handful of bucks I've spent over the past however many months. Yay, extra retainers for everyone! AND my monthly sub goes down a little? wewt.

I have all 4 retainers at max inventory space. Here is why:

1. Gear. I have to have the gear in my inventory in order to glamour it? This is... dumb. >.>; Should be some sort of "collector's catalog" of gear I've achieved from crafting/dungeons that I can use as a glamour source. This would free up one entire retainer for me!

2. Craft mats. Not much can be done about this. I get rid of everything that is sold by npcs. I keep the rarer mats I need for any recipes I chose to make. I don't hang on to CUL or most ALC mats cause 4 retainers isn't enough for this. =_=

3. Event items that can't go into the armoire. Are we SURE SE won't take these off the calamity salvager in the future? :/ I've unloaded ones I don't care if I never see again, but am not willing to lose some of the event housing items (and it's not like they're super cheap when it comes to npc shop stuff. :/ ).

What they should do is allow items that you've previously possessed to be available for glamour. So, we could get rid of the item, but still have access to its appearance for glamour.

What about all the people with 3 retainers? Will they suddenly decide they need another or will they just thing "cool, I can pay less now and still have the same"

I think most would just be happy to stick at 3 and save some cash. That's why I doubt it'll ever happen, SE wouldn't want to lose that income.

If they do add a 5th retainer I suspect it won't be a free one.

I have 4 retainers and it's not enough. For a 4* crafter and someone who is leveling all classes in general... there's just not enough space to hold everything. I hear so much about the ability to craft "storage" in WoW... what's so different about FFXIV? Is the server space that much larger in WoW or???
