Not sure I understand your math.People already paid money, 100's if not 1,000's of people have already paid money for a 3rd retainer. It's not fair to them. Also reducing the monthly cost of a sub is not the same principle as making it completely free.
Let's do a little math.
Each Retainer = 2$ and lets just get a 3rd retainer for the sake of the thread here.
Non Legacy Subscription = 15$/month.
Now, adding on the retainer fee. It increases to 17$ a month.
Let's add that together, you pay for a full year of XIV with the fee of 17$ a month over the span of 12 months.
17 x 365 D/a Yr = 6,205 Dollars. That is just for a 3rd retainer.
Now let's say we have 100 people who have all done the same thing and are on a month to month payment method.
That is 620,500$
There is no way in hell SE is refunding that kind of money just because a few people want a 3rd retainer for free.

As someone who would consider myself a gear hoarder that thinks in "what if"s...
I'd like to be able to hang onto old gear for future classes, but still have room for new junk that keeps rolling in. xD Old non-50 THM robes, etc? Toss it on ARC. Old ninja dex gear? Toss it on archer (and probably later, Machinist). Some of my old conj/WHM stuff went on my SCH - same with some of my MNK stuff on my LNC. Glad and Marauder kinda share, too. Same with my crafters! And the new classes coming out! Arf! All the mind gear on my AST! All my tank gear on my DRK! All my.... well, I don't know... dex and/or str stuff on my MACH! RECYCLE ALL THE THINGS! @o@ ....*taken away by the Eorzeans in white* I do turn some of my 'meh' or doubles into materia, but... I don't wanna spend money re-buying HQ gear or hunting Aetherial gear later for my noobs when I can just grab and equip it. (I was originally leveling all my magic using jobs just so I can turn the no-longer-useful-anywhere int/mind gear into materia.... and then they brought out news of the new jobs >.>)
Same thing with the crafting stuff.... "WHAT IF I NEED TO CRAFT----- WHEN I GET THE LAST ------- PIECE FOR THAT [insert fancy furniture/armor crafting item here]". *palmface at self*
...but seriously - I also have a lot of crap that I can't put in the armoire (I tried) - the 46785687 colored dragon/horse/rabbit/sheep helmits, earrings, etc event stuff (I just noticed they added all that to the cash shop, too o_o).
I'd love to put my old classic WHM robe stuff in the armoire, too, for remniscence sake (have to admit, the white and red is one of the iconic gears of the old FF games o.o).
I should probably just get a third retainer.... but I would so be down for a quest for a third retainer. I would do it in a heartbeat. I would throw myself at Titan EX for it. :| ....maybe not T5 (*hides under rock after the last bunch of attempts*), but I'd throw myself at Titan EX! (lost cause if it required completing FCOB though...)

There seems to be a big discussion about this... i remember hearing or reading somewhere we would be getting another retainer, because the inventory expansion is currently non-viable, i was said Yoshi but i can't remember where.
Also, extra retainers are a temporal service, you pay to have them for a specific period of time, SE doesn't have to offer refunds, unless they manage it poorly, not making us know about the change or letting the players get retainers in a period of time shorter than 30 days before the release of the 3rd retainer.

SE still has to pay for that extra server space then... "We know you're having problems giving us inventory space, so just give us inventory space!" Like, sure, an extra retainer would be cool, but just suggesting that doesn't actually address any of the issues SE is having.
When in doubt, assume sarcasm

I'd be happy if they even just made the retainers a one-time character or account purchase thing as opposed to monthly.
I prefer an upgrade of buying/Selling option from the market
how many people selling items at 99 pieces if most ppl only need 1...
I understand them, 1 retainer "only" has 20 slots for selling items! Wich isnt much <,<
there should be an option!
Example: some1 placed 45x of an item
"How much do you want to buy?"
"Inserts number 2"
"You have purchased 2 items"
We can do this on NPC stores! Why not from market too?

Because it removes a "strategic" decision in listing items. It allows people with the proper knowledge to place items in quantities that people most likely need, and charge a premium for that.
“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”
― Ernest Hemingway
I'm not having a problem with inventory space, but I haven't reached a high enough level on enough classes to pose any sort of problem yet.
But shouldn't the solution be some sort of storage chest if the goal is just additional storage space?
Retainers bring much more to the table than just inventory space. The retainer ventures give items and the limit on how many items you can sell helps control the market (you have to be selective on what you want to sell at some point).
Increasing the amount of items people can sell, and the number of items retrieved by retainers by 50% for everyone is bound to throw some problems. If anything, just add a few more tabs of inventory space to each retainer. But until then, either pay for more retainers, or be more strict with your inventory management.
Frankly, there should not be purchasable retainers at all. We already pay a monthly subscription, and extra retainers for those who pay more are a massive gameplay advantage.
