Shame this forum doesn't have a downvote button!
Every EU Ninja who doesn't wanna pay for a VPN will be thankful for EU servers!
SE don't have server/capacity problems because they have been careful. If they aren't careful like they are now then there might be server/capacity problems. Rather than add new wards they need to look at a mechanism for removing inactive accounts property. Even if they state of it is snapshotted as it is. What's the point of having wards if 90% of it there are abandoned houses. It is weird to hear a lot about how this game is succesful and about it's nice comeback and then hear from developers atleast twice a month about server load/ capacity problems.
According to the minion/ mount websites, SE has sold loads of Sleipnirs, minions and I believe platinum eternal bondings too, got about 500K subscribers but.....
... we can't have more housing wards (when on every bigger server it was impossible to get small house after a few hours), more inventory space, customizable NPCs in housing (while retainers in housing aren't problem) and lots of other stuff.
Yup, I get that lots of income from this game go back to SE so they can put it into their other games which won't even make as much as FFXIV. But what SE needs to realize is that without investing more $$ to the game they won't make more out of it.

I have been wondering about this. I think at least three houses in our neighborhood are owned by dead/inactive FCs where nobody has logged in in months. Why are they still allowed to clog up our neighborhood? I would not be adverse to the house property itself being demolished, and the original sale price of the house reverted back to the FC bank (which will still exist) if no one from the FC has logged in for a period of six months. That way, those houses can go back on the market for people who want them WITHOUT having to build more market wards, and since the money is dumped in the FC bank, no hard feelings if one lone person logs in a year from now on a whim and discovers the house is gone.

i will be blunt, FF14 is the first time i see a dev say they can't add a feature or need to reduce a feature....because of the server capacity! in the whole mmorpg industry is a first! if another mmorpg have a trouble of server capacity.... they upgrade it! i fail to understand why they need to be carefull that much, when the game is still growing and are (by them own word) a success.SE don't have server/capacity problems because they have been careful. they need to stop to be carefull and invest a bit in the game, i can't imagine the number of feature that was abandonned because of the server capacity!
What I find even weirder is that every other game seems to have been able to do this without a problem. Even Guild Wars 2 which is free to play has been able to add huge amounts of inventory space (they have not only special storage for crafting materials but also a unlocked 'glamour' book equivalent allowing you to change you gear into anything you have previously unlocked).
Seriously, what technology are you running that can't create new instances for housing or add inventory expansion?
I support a 3rd additional retainer via quest. And to be honest the expansion is just the place to do it(infact I'd say every expansion should add 1). As an alternative to needing to store each and every piece of glamour gear - give us a gear and weapons book where we can collect various items we only keep for glamour - aka we obtain the gear it unlocks in the book and then we can use the book data to apply to glamour prisms(should take less DB storage as well since it would be just a link to the base item instead of having spiritbonding and other metadata attached).

I like this glamour book idea. it will clean out lots spaces from my retainer.I support a 3rd additional retainer via quest. also, for these things that we can't convert, why give them the spiritbinding value for server to store down? I'm not data expert tho. I don't know remove these will make data storage easier.

And then let's ask for the 4th retainer to be given free.
The simple solution is to not hoard stuff you don't need. I have 4 retainers, but I could easily fit all of my things into 2. I just have 4 for convenience sake as I like to organize my inventories.
If you want more space, paying a little more is a good way to let the development work on achieving that goal as some of the problem is physical limitations (data storage space) as much as software can be modified to better handle data.
This is pretty much it. There's a big demand for more local servers for European players. And Europe is a big place. Whilst I expect western European players can probably get a decent enough experience (from the UK my ping is between 90 and 110ms to the NA servers), those in eastern Europe may not have the same capability.
And I'm sure that a number of west Asian/Middle Eastern players would also like an alternative to JP, too. It goes along way trying to provide a better service to more players.
What is needed now is some information on an Australian data centre (especially as I intend to emigrate to join family in the future; I'd like a good connection please, I'm used to that). So please buy more mounts/retainers etc.
hoarding has it's benefits, my desynthesis skilled up really quick and at almost no gil cost cause of all the i70-i90 gear i hoarded through the years.
also the glamour system is awful, i have to keep all this old gear for glamours, and a lot of stuff you're afraid to throw out because the drop rates are so awful. if they put in the i90 trade in system for all the i70/i80/i100 gear maybe that would help.
dumping untradeable stuff in there would be helpful too, Moonstones, Atma, Oaknots, Ventures, etc.
