    Fenrir

Just really curious about this fellow's story, or point in this game.

In Snowcloak, he just appears, we beat him and then he's dead. In the storyline, he's not mentioned in any way. I checked the journal and found no mention of the supposed 'legendary' beast.

Sirens' lore is that she's a race of what used to be many (of course there could be many others off in other parts of Hydaelyn). Diabolos' lore is that the Black Mages summoned him and that the White Mages sealed(?) him. Fenrir? Aside from having a very disappointingly easy fight, he's just... there. What is the lore behind Fenrir? (Siren and Diabolos mentioned because they were also summons in previous Final Fantasy games and were explained enough for us to get an idea on their existence/point)

(mostly asking because he's going to be a reward from Gold Saucer, which just raises MORE questions)

Well, I don't know about Siren there, but the Amdapori summoned Diabolos and they were White Mages the whole group. (I suspect his summoning was to be used as a weapon in the War of the Magi, but he was stronger than the Amdapori expected and wiped them out.) Fenrir, we don't know at the moment. I suspect we will get more with the whole Fenrir mount being a thing in 2.51, and the Mount Guide being a thing.

According to in-game lore, it was the enemies of the Ampadori (most likely the Belah'dians but was never confirmed) that summoned Diabolos to destroy the White Mages. The White Mages were the ones who were able to re-seal him away deep within the Tower of White, and it's only after centuries of weakening did the seal break and we (adventurers) were called to reseal him.

As for Fenrir, if he had some significant story in FFXIV I'm sure they would have included it. The fact that they didn't simply means, to me, that he's probably just the most powerful of his kind and that's it. Or he's simply a trained "guard dog." Snowcloak's focus was on Iceheart, not Fenrir.

Proto-Belah'dians. Belah'dia was founded in the Sixth Astral Era, whereas Amdapor fell in the Sixth Umbral after the War of the Magi in the Fifth Astral. Surviving mages founded Belah'diah, and some of the ruins they built upon were already there from the previous Era (as Qarn tells us). These surviving mages are the ones that likely came from the groups using Black Magic.

Literally the only hint we have so far is from the sickle fang, which says that he's a legendary spirit-hound. Given that Lady Iceheart knows much of the true nature of summoning, I almost wonder if Fenrir was an aetherial construct formed from the essence of ice by Iceheart herself.

So a legendary spirit hound becomes a reward from Gold Saucer... like I said, it just raises more questions.

Isn't it possible that "Fenrir" are just a race of monster? After all there are more Behemoths than the one in Courthas and more Chimera than the one in Cutter's Cry so it doesn't seem unlikely that there is more than one Fenrir like wolf, the gold saucer proves that much, but the real question is whether Fenrir is it's Species name ala Chimera/Behemoth or if it's a the specific name of that particular wolf like Savara is a specific dragon in the Dravanian Horde.

In any aspect, I'd wager that Fenrir and it's kin are from Dravania being as that's the only one that's ever been seen in Eorzia.

Possible, but when the word is used mid-sentence, behemoth and chimera begin with lower-case letters, so does siren, whereas Sickle Fang uses Fenrir.

If I remember correctly, most (if not all) of the Circle of Knowing have been to the city-state of Sharlayan for study, which was in Dravania before they abandoned it and went home.

I was so sure that this was going to end up being the basis for Fenrir, but I feel like if it wasn't just a coincidence, Fenrir would have been basically the Lambs of Dalamud's primal, in the end.

While the connection to the Lambs may have burned, I do think it adds something to the Primals = Twelve theories...

Menphina the Lover, wields power over Ice. Saint Shiva, the Ice Primal, perhaps maybe the Dragon Lover? We have Menphina's Loyal Hound and I'd argue we could call Fenrir Shiva's, or at least Iceheart's Loyal Hound given the reasons why we were fighting him... Crazy theory, we just discovered a new Archon - Iceheart is an incarnation Menphina...

Then again we'll be summoning Fenrir to ride, so perhaps he isn't that big a thing...

Then again we can buy Sleipnir, so maybe whoever keeps making new mounts just doesn't give a hoot about lore...
