    Dragon Lore

So with patch 2.5 bringing a lot of interesting information about Dragons, Ishgard, Midgardsormr, etc. I've gotten pretty interested in learning more about the Dragons themselves, Dravania, the culture, the language...pretty much anything and everything that we know about Eorzea's dragons.

What exactly is the relationship between Dravania, the dragons we know of (Svara, Aiatar, Isgebind, Midgardsormr's 7 sons, Safat, Niddhogg others I'm probably forgetting), Midgardsormr, Bahamut, the Dragons that were trapped in Dalamud, the Dragonsong war, etc.

So if any of you lore fiends want to help educate me or point me towards interesting in-game locations where I can learn (or both!) it would be much appreciated!

Well, Svara, Aiatar (maybe, might just be a dragon on his own), Isgebind, and Safat are all dragons of Dravania, maybe lower Dragon Lords, but not Kings. Nidhogg and Midgardsormr are Dragon Kings, and Midgardsormr is the King above Kings. Bahamut might be Midgardsormr's son, and Nidghogg is very likely his child. The dragons trapped in Dalamud were Bahamut's descendents (the Meracydian Dragons, not related to the Dravanians in hierarchy) and worshippers, who summoned their deceased dragon ancestor as a Primal. The Dragons of Dravania wage their Dragonsong War, and they together (meaning the Dragons of Dravania) sing in a chorus through some unknown method.

I think that's everything. I hope that makes sense, cus I don't know how to organize that.

The way I see it is like this we know Bahumat is an elder primal we know Shiva was a real person lets take it from the fact that a primal didn't necessarily has to be a god but a real person or this case a dragon so Bahumat was a dragon maybe the first so here we go.

    Bahumat the first dragon?
    Misgardsormier king of kings
Then the hierarchy those below the ones above strongest to weakest top to bottom.

Wyrms great dragons 4limbs 2 wings element based from fire tight to poison.
    Wyvern 2 legs 2 wings
then goes from the ones in the stone vigil but lowest ones are
Drakes since these seam more like pack animals since the amalja have trained them

Except that Midgardsormr is the "Father of Dragons" and Bahamut was "Of the First Brood," which is where I'm getting Midgardsormr being his daddy.

Before I forget, again, I've been meaning to get this into the thread. There seems to be a massive scalekin hierarchy whereby the higher can simply command those below them in such a way that they are unable to resist the call.

For a while, we mostly saw this from the four-leg-two-wing dragons (4L2W). In the Stone Vigil, we see Isgebind has managing the defense. In Brayflox's Longstop, we see Aiatar rallying scalekin to defend the area it claimed from the goblins. Svara led the assault on the Steel Vigil, as far as I recall. I believe Gowrow had taken over Isgebind's post, but we blew him out of the sky with the Bertha cannons.

In the Coil, we see the ancient wyvern Twintania, enslaved by magitek, commanding the Scourge of Meracydia (or perhaps both answer to the nearby Bahamut core). Later in the coil, Nael deus Darnus, enthralled to Bahamut's will, summoned both wyverns and 4L2Ws. And even the fight with Bahamut Prime features nearly every dragon.

As we now approach Heavensward, one of the highest dragons calls, one of Midgardsormr's children. The Lord of the Lake flat out says that the others cannot resist the call to arms. Moreover, Midgardsormr's spirit rises to join his child's song, implying that he does so because then none will not be rallied to the campaign.

I wish we knew more of the genus/species names, though. So many of them are just called dragons. Drakes, Wyverns, and Dragonflies we've got down, so far. But then you've got the big FFXII ring/shield dragons that Stone Vigil HM implies puks can grow into, the Giruveganus dragons, the ones that FFXI called Wyrms (4L2W), the XI dahak/ash dragons from the void... Even if you leave out all of the ones implied to be one-of-a-kind, we're missing some labels.

I think dragon society might be some kind of bee hive society, with a collective consciousness and the lower dragons forced to obey the will of their King/Queen.

It actually reminds me of How To Train Your Dragon 2, where an Alpha (or in this case, a higher ranking dragon) can control or in the least command lower powered/aged/sized dragons.

Worst Father ever then... What has Midgardsormr done?

-Stopped the Garlean advance at that Battle of Silvertear Skies, sacrificing himself in the process, because... Errr... Not to sure...
-Woke, from the grave, to answer the call of (presumably) Nidhogg to ensure all Dragons a set to fight Ishgard in the Dragonsong War.

What was he doing when Xandes was conquering Meracydia? So far all we know is that Ishgard slaughters Dragons and is likely (unknowingly) helping further the Ascians goals. That apparently demands retribution. Xandes? Lets see, he literally lived right next door to Midgardsormr, conquered Meracydia (if Bahamut was Middy's son, they're direct descendants), enslaved them and then tortured them to make the now Primal Bahamut more powerful, why? So Xandes could power a Voidgate and literally end the world... How have we not heard of the epic battle Midgardsormr waged against Xandes for this? Everything Xandes did related to Meracydia and Bahamut seems so much worse than whatever Ishgard is doing... Ishgard are being puppets? "BURN THEM ALL!", Xandes has a mullet "He cool". Either Middy has some messed up priorities or there is some epic Midgardsormr v Allag lore we're missing...

Until Midgardsormr flat out says Bahamut was his babby, I'm incline to believe Midgardsormr (and the Twelve mythos for that matter) were products of the 5th Umbral Era, because of a crazy theory involving the Allagan Runestone - Menphina.

Well, don't judge on current locations between Midgardsormor dealing with Xande. We do not know that Crystal Tower was here when Xande first created it. landmasses move, earthquakes, etc.

Also Midgardsormor was "sleeping" at the bottom of the lake. I would expect that he was awoken when the dragons started dying and then he rose to save his brood.

I think that Bahamut was died and Midgardsormor didn't accept the summoned form of his son as a part of his brood, which is what would have gotten Xande off the hook.
