Winning an item via GREED shouldn't lock you out of rolling NEED

It just doesn't make much sense to begin with, and led to an incredibly confusing and frustrating scenario, when a Monk chest dropped from the Cloud of Darkness, and to my absolute horror, I discovered that I was unable to roll because I had apparently won a Bard belt earlier off of a GREED roll, nevermind the fact that my Archer class is still at lvl 1.

More than that, the entire group passed, meaning that not only was I unable to roll Need, but the item actually got erased right in front of my eyes!

It's just nonsensical design, and lends itself to frustrating first-time scenarios just like this. Please consider changing how this is handled in the future.

They explained these rules from the start. One piece of loot per week. You rolled for a piece of loot and won it for a class you don't even have because of your own foolishness and inability to read then you want the rules changed to suit you?

Allowing to win an infinite amount of gear by just greeding would lead to premade parties farming the hell out of those places by just defining who will "greed" on certain pieces while the rest of the party passes. Essentially everyone could get all of the loot they want for all of their mains/twinks in one week.

The drop rules are clear in that dungeon. Also, a warning notification pops up when the loot window does reminding you basically 'you get one drop a week'. So 100% on you for rolling on an item for your lvl 1 Archer, instead of passing it.

Furthermore, you saw NOTHING wrong with rolling on a 'greed' item for a role you literally haven't even played let alone can equip the gear on yet. What if someone else in your party, who DID have a level 50 bard they played as an alt role also rolled against you as greed on that? You don't care that you won a roll for your level 1 against their level 50...but you DO care that a Monk body you could use now for your guy landed on the floor.

The system is fine, your expectations are however, not. In general, you shouldn't role on level 50 gear for roles you haven't even leveled yet (regardless what the dungeon loot rules are in that instance). Even if the item falls to the floor because no one 'rolled', you couldn't use it anyway. Save your rolls for gear you can actually use now.

And if you want gear for a specific role, run the duty on THAT job, and roll need for that item. You will likely get it.

It's about as fair a system as SE can make.

PS: what others have said above is also true.

I totally should have passed, at this point it's just been habit from playing other MMO's, I didn't even think. So yeah, in all honesty, that was pretty crappy on my part. Wish I could give the item to someone else who'd been in the raid (in fact, think a GM-Ticket would do anything like that?)

Similarly, the idea that you're penalized for rolling Greed is just another strange notion to me. I think it's awesome to prevent a person from winning more than one Main-Spec item a week, and you certainly shouldn't be eligible for loot more than once a week, but since you're only doing one run a week, it's just strange that items should actually be *DESTROYED*.

I'll have to look through and see if I can find the active-help window for the loot rules, but I definitely didn't see anything of any particular consequence pop up while running World of Darkness for the first time lastnight. I mean, I know *now*, and I suppose it's not some world-ending issue in hindsight, but it was definitely frustrating at the time.

Wow, just wow. So, for three Crystal Tower raids now, spanning over a year, there was a one-item weekly lock out rule on gear. So, because you weren't paying attention (or just trying to be greedy), you want the whole system re-worked?

Not strange at all. Nobody rolls = nobody wants (or at least, nobody wants to burn their weekly loot on) = nobody should cry that it disappears. Are you saying that loot nobody rolls on should be given free to somebody without burning their weekly loot? Now *that* is a really strange idea, because that would break the one item per week rule and open the door to all kinds of abuse.

Anyway, like others have brought up. Why even roll greed on an item you have zero current use for anyway? Unless you can equip, your retainer can equip, or you can desynth or turn in for GC seals...that item is just inventory -1 for you. I personally find that part of your story the strangest thing of all.

I only started raiding a few weeks ago, for the record.

Typically, you roll Greed on items you might use down the road, or at least that is how it has always been in other MMO's. That you are penalized for doing so if just a totally alien concept to me. I don't know, I'll have to sit down and really consider the long-term implications -- maybe it's a better system after all -- but it's definitely a system-shock, coming from virtually any other game, including FFXIV itself prior to WoD.

I accidently hit greed before, worst mistake of my life the description just isn't clear enough. Just lockout of pressing Greed please as this is just a pain.

Seems like quite the hyperbole there.
