1v1 duels aren't needed... if you want them, then there's other games with that sort of style. FFXIV doesn't need to follow the same path as other MMO's... Any 1v1 duel system will be open to abuse and people WILL find ways around blocks etc. Adding to blacklist... that seems to be the go to answer for everything nowadays. It shouldn't have to be.
For the record, this is the ONLY 'prospect' I have said 'no' to for XIV. It is NOT needed. Even in XI, there was Brenner and Ballista for PVP which worked well. In XIV we have one specific area for PVP and that's fine. The game is primarily PVE, NOT PVP... Dueling will just cause more aggravation for players who just want to PVE.

Duels shouldn't be added because this game needs to be a special snowflake and not take good things from other games and if I disagree I should go play some other MMO

I never sad that PVP isn't needed. Group PVP is fine and is locked to one area only which is great. 1v1 Duels everywhere else except sanctuaries... THAT I don't want. How would they be a great addition? To cite the two games I used before as examples (DCUO and SWTOR), people were getting challenged to duels EVERYWHERE... It was not fun, to be in the middle of a fight with trash mobs, then have my character pause as a pop up appears, challenging me to a duel... and by the time you decline it, your dead... and the idiot who challenged you is there laughing.

That's seriously your complaint?
Here's a fix.
When someone issues you a duel no matter wait, it only appears as the small minimized confirmation window. Like the little box that appears when you hit wait for the duty finder.
You just assume that if someone issues you a duel you're going to be unable to take any actions until hitting accept or decline? That's kind of silly don't you think. That's not how it would be and you know it.
I think this game do really not need many things like personal housing or marriage system etc but I have nothing against it. Let players have fun in this game in their own way. Nobody force you do the duels. You can keep doing pve as much you want. If some players want duel somewhere that should not hurt you at all.
Edit:Who said dueling is supposed 2 happen everywhere? You can que for it from duty finder(like wolves den) or make special area for dueling.
