Smallclothes (An item suggestion for the developers)

The other day, some friends of mine held an eternal bonding ceremony. As a present for the brides, I made them each an HQ hempen pantlalettes & camise set, which I dyed pure white. (Well, those dyes were just sitting in retainer storage, anyway).

I had a couple of thoughts, though, as a result of making those presents.

    1) Hemp isn't really a material that says "high value present."

    2) People often write about wishing they could get one of the other racial versions of the smallclothes.

    3) Crafters would love some more recipes.

It occurs to me that you could make the racial smallclothes fit the other races with a minimum of work, and call them by the names of increasingly difficult cloth. Say, cotton pantalettes, linen camise, vanya silk pantalettes? By the time you've gotten to 50, you've accumulated lingerie for all the racial variants.

In 1.0 we had different types of underclothes as well (cotton, velveteen, etc..), but when 2.0 launched they took away the underwear slot & cut it back to just the hempen since it wasn't mandatory to wear undergarments anymore & it would be just for looks. While I wouldn't be against this, I don't think they will do it since they took all those other ones out for a reason.

Why does everything need to be given to crafters? Why can't they just be bought? I'm quite sick of every piece of vanity gear being locked behind 50 crafts. Sure you can retort with "Just level up crafters to 50." But that's not the point I am trying to make. Crafters have almost every piece of vanity gear catered to them, for those of us who don't craft, we have to shell out a few 100k just to get the materials needed, which to me is annoying if you're trying to save up for your relic or an FC house. Why can't we just have an NPC sell them?

...you really hate crafters so much you'll demand that they lose the ONE thing that they do best? It's bad enough you don't need crafters for anything important, let us have our non-essential vanity market.

I'm not saying vanities shouldn't be a primary market for the crafters, but on a server like mine which is simply rife with crafters, most new vanities (and relevant gear) become gated behind stupendous prices, and thus are only able to be enjoyed by only the wealthiest.

One option they could consider is to combine the ideas of the Eternal Bonding gear and the Bridesmaid/Groom formal gear. The formal gear CAN be crafted, but it's also for sale from an NPC. The EB gear has 2 different dye patters among its variations. Why not have a less expensive NPC version (still dyeable!), and the crafter version with perhaps a different dye pattern or more elaborate touches? Everybody wins that way.

Actually, the reason for the prices is the rarity of items involved, such as rare desynths from legendary fish or random chance from quick ventures, or possible loot from treasure maps. It's not JUST the crafters aiming for a profit. Now, making the recipe use more common ingredients (say, vanya at most) would still keep the price down while keeping crafters relevant

*looks at gear that increases stats, food that assists in dungeons, housing items that can only be gained from crafters, looks at unique clothing sets you only get if you craft them* yea a few vanity items for PVE players isn't going to harm the monopoly you have with the market bored. some vanity items acquired without the use of crafters would be nice, like the glasses. theres so meny crafted glasses for vanity but only basic spectacles for pve. i find it funny how the goldsmith guild dons sell the glasses.

The hempen set, the bridesmaid's set, and the best man's set are all sold by NPCs.

Many vanity glamors are from festivals.

Aside from food, those are all rather optional (Barring materia melded shenanigans, best stuff comes from dungeons/raids anyway). And as others have said, there's plenty of non-crafted vanity options out there. The fact that the items you WANT are crafted is perhaps kind of the point: The thing about a market is that it's only the items people want that matter.

Plain and simple, you just have to accept that crafters have an advantage in certain areas. It's neither cheap nor easy to be a crafter... you'd think they'd get SOMETHING for the effort.
