Vampires in Eorzea

Well, now that this thread's been brought back from the dead (how apropos!), I just wanted to point out:

True. A Dark Gothic expansion with vampires, phantom trains and witches *cough* Ultimecia *cough* would be nice, but that would be much harder to pull off. It all depends on where the story is going. You see, we are focusing on dragons now, and the sins commited by Eorzeans go back at the very least to the Allagan Empire and the Meracydians. They are a huge part of the current plot. On the other hand, vampires can't make such claims. Yet. If however we get entagled in the social intrigue of Vampire Lords in Ishgardian society they would become important enough to warrant their own expansion.

The latest batch of MSQs have done quite a nice job in setting up for a future gothic/voidsent expansion, if SE chooses to go that route!

It's been revealed that the Void from which voidsent harass the world is actually the Thirteenth Reflection, a world in which darkness triumphed and the world was overcome by a flood of darkness. While it's treated as a world lost, perhaps a future expansion could deal with new hope that it might be reclaimed from the darkness - which would, of course, necessitate heading on over there and hobnobbing with all kinds of ghoulies, Vampires potentially included.

Do I actually think this will happen? Not really. But the potential hooks are there!

I think the bigger problem is that the void likely doesn't have aetherytes, market boards and all sorts of stuff we can use. I mean they likely had them at one point, but most likely that is all gone or warped to the point where we can't interact with it. But we already visited the void in 2.5 so it's not impossible to do it again.
Of course we do not really know if vampires are voidsent are not. The way they dress, and the fact that they dress at all, makes me think that they are not.

Hey, plenty of Voidsent wear clothes. As a few examples, Echidna wears a halter, Feridad is pretty much fully clothed, and Succubi dress, as well! Sure, they're actually animated corpses, but I find it unlikely that the corpses they animated were all wearing succubus thongs, so evidently they dress themselves somehow. Even Cloud of Darkness has wispy rags covering her up a bit. No reason I can think of that high-ranking Voidsent can dress if and how they please, and Vampyrs would likely be near the top of the heap.

As for aetherytes...

They most likely DO exist, since the reflected worlds seem to be similar to the primary one - the question is whether or not they are still operational given the state of aether in a void-consumed world. In all likelihood, if we did go to the Thirteenth Reflection, they'd come up with some handwave that would allow us to use them; probably some gadget created by Cid that powers the aetherytes with the necessary juice transmitted from our world. Marketboards, though, probably not. Not that that's all that different from what we have already, with MB access only available in a few select places.

Possibly the most interesting thing about an idea like this is that the Ascians would be totally on board with it! Losing the Thirteenth Reflection was a major gaffe on their part, and if we found some way to salvage it they'd be all for it. It'd be interesting having them as allies, for a change.

That's the thing razor. Voidsent that wear clothes kinda wear very inhuman clothes. Vampires dress as regular people, only a bit more elegant. They resemble lawyers more than they do succubi.
And I did say that aetherytes definitely present at some point, but they are probably either broken or require voidsent phisiology to use.
But we could have more raids in the void. Yoshie-P said that the new raids would be VERY final fantasy. One could be Ultimecia's castle. While it didn't have vampires, nor was it in the void, I could picture the XIV version to have both. We likely won't have time compression right after Alexander.

So there is no reason why Eorzea shouldn't have vampires. But should it have? I don't know. My most compelling aqrgument is basically: I love vampires. So I'll let you all decide.

Classic vampires are pointless (though not toothless) in this game. There are already vampiric attacks used by creatures and players leeching strength, whether HP or MP, from their targets. Having a player race that literally sucks/consumes the blood of other beings is entirely unnecessary, and IMHO doesn't fit in Eorzea at all. How can a vampire who classically preys on other people also be the Warrior of Light who's in effect the champion of Eorzea and 'sworn' to protect her people?

Sorry, but in a game without blood (thank goodness) during combat, I fail to see how the addition of blood sucking monsters as player characters adds in any way shape or form to the existing lore or game. I can think of ways it detracts from what we have.

I know that this is a cliche answer, but if you want to be a bloodsucker, I am certain that there are games that cater to you, I suggest seeking them out in order to vent your need for that kind of gameplay.

Necroing a thread about the undead, how meta I don't have a problem with vampires being monsters/bosses or even NPC we interact with, but there shouldn't be a full race of them and thousands of adventurers being one.
