Hello everyone! Just wanted to share a few things with the lore loving community here so feel free to reply and add your own thoughts on the subject.
MIGHT CONTAIN MINOR SPOILERS.
I named this thread "A bit disappointed..." for a particular reason. It is NOT about the quality of this patch. In fact, it is my favourite thus far and truly makes a huge impact on the story compared to the fillers we've had throughout the 2.x era. I love it. Why I am disappointed though is the fact that the main character once again remains the invincible and incorruptible hero of legends despite not having the Blessing of Light anymore... Allow me to further explain.
The little details the trailer revealed before patch 2.5 had me believe the main character's integrity was going to be compromised in some way which would have been a welcomed change in my opinion. Coupled with Minfilia's lines and the involvement of an Ascian, I thought for sure that the main character would somehow lose his divine protection during the fight against Midgardsormr which would have then led to his corruption or body possession by an Ascian ergo involving the player in the attack on The Rising Stone in another way than a mere unmoving witness. While I was right for the first part, the second part sightly disappointed me as I thought that we would finally become more involved in the story other than that silent guy who kills bosses and attend meetings without saying much.
Finally, all this made me think of the possibility. Now that the main character is no longer protected by the Blessing of Light, what prevents an all-powerful Ascian from taking over the main character's body thus proving to the King of Kings that we are not worthy of being the chosen one and taking down their most powerful enemy at the same time? Ascians are not Primals and thus would make the power of the Echo useless against them. What prevents them now from doing what they did to Thancred? Our avatar would surely be exhausted after fighting so many battles so the "Thancred was pushing himself too hard" excuse doesn't match up.
I ask you these 2 question: "Would you like to see your character be possessed by an Ascian?" and "What prevents the Ascians from simply taking over the player avatar's body?"
