    Blue Mage: Mage? Melee? Hybrid?

It may be well over a year before we even see a Blue Mage, but that's not going to delay my discussion on how I'd like to see one in XIV.

Hopefully this won't turn into another FFXI-2 thread, but here we go....

My preference is to see a Melee Blue Mage, kind of like Kimahri from FFX, but rather someone you would actually put in your party. I'd like for the "Blue Magic" to be TP based and most of them costing 500TP, and 1000TP for the really powerful ones. This way the Blue Mage is able to pull off a series of monster abilities after building up a good amount of TP.

But if Blue Mage turns out to be a Job that is becoming of it's name, a caster, this is what I'd like to see.
A really good MP Drain ability with a low recast. Blue Magic spells with a very short casting time and relatively low MP cost. Cause if Blue Mage plays like CON it's going to be a very boring Job to play.

In whatever shape and form Blue Mage comes, please make it a fast pace Job that can do peak DPS, not a slow casting, MP deprived, "stay on the bench" Job.

I can't wait to sea the FFXIV implementation of Blue Mage!

Instead of just normal elemental magic, or weaponskills, we'll get physical and magical based mob abilities that do approximately as much damage as their spell/weaponskill counterpart, but with different animations. Oh and they'll be laggy. You can bet your sweet canonicals they'll be laggy.

If you don't think new summoner is better, you're playing the wrong game.

Trying to learn Elbow Drop should be fun.

    That gives me an idea.

Blue Shield - Reduces damage of learnable Blue Magic by 50%

Hmmm...I'm making this harder than it has to be.
Might as well just use Lancet on the mob, take their HP & MP and learn any available Blue Magic.

I think it's need to be less annoying than the ffxi version. Standing backwards while a mob beats the crap out of you seemed a little less fun.

A skill like lancet would be more interesting, make it like a drop rate or something. Then they could release gear for BLU that is like 'Increases lancet success rate by 15%' or something like that.

Heh main thing about this lancet has evolved into more of a dragoon ability. FFV, VII, and XI's blue mage systems were good (what you speak of the 'backtanking' was only if you were fighting enemies well below you that didn't survive long enough to use their abilities, which is generally the level 1-20 spell set, 30-90 mobs are almost always using the learnable spell.)

FFVIII's was through item consumption, FFIX's was through 'eat', so they could always bring back an item based system given the serverside nature of this game's interface.

Well, I use Lancet as an example. But something similar to the idea. Using a skill that absorbs blue magic spells from enemy's.

I wouldn't mind at all if Dragoon had Blue Magic.

I'd rather less fully loaded Jobs instead of a bunch of one dimensional Jobs.

A polearm blu like Kimahri would be in my opinion the coolest! My 2 favorite jobs in one /faint....now only if we could give them primals too (jk on that last bit lol)

The dev team has to see this thread. I hope they consider it!
