Do not want! I'm playing FFXIV NOT XI
Hope you're playing as a race that isn't Elezen, Lalafell, Hyur, Roegadyn or Miqote, plus they are introducing a job system, which as of now, XI, XIV and Eden Eternal are the only MMOs that I've personally played that even allows the ability to switch jobs, so in a sense, XIV is still using an XI mechanic, so yeah you are playing XI.
@Simple Food system.
Yeah, I do miss food like:
Good times. Yeah XIV has some interesting effects, like those that enhance Craftsmanship or Magic Craft, but honestly, they agree as well food needs to be redone xD.Food Effects: (30 minutes, All Races)
HP +20
Strength +5
Dexterity +6
Accuracy +15%
Ranged Accuracy +15%
Resist Sleep
Cose FFXIV is NOT FFXI-2. They want money from FFXI and from FFXIV.
So this games want be the same. If you want Job/Subjob like in FFXI go play FFXI.
Have you missed where even the loyalist of FFXIV players said they'd quit if they charged for this game? They want money from XIV and XI is making money even 10ish years later, so something is still going right with XI -- It also has a fairly large population for being this old. XIV is about a year old without it's first expansion and undergoing an overhaul, People who want to play FFXI will play it, however there's no excuse to throw away even the basics of your PREVIOUS MMORPG instead of just making it better...even with "class customization" it's still lesser than what XI has to offer class wise -- This is the problem and why people are offering ideas about how XI did it because after making and maintaining a successful MMORPG for 10 years (including one based on the Front Mission series) XIV should not have been in the shape it was in.
Sometimes i wish they would not have used the word "class" as the meta descriptor for weapons and there skill pools. People are still having difficulty wrapping there heads around the games base system even almost a year+ after the playing public got there hands on the game. I Cant really fault either side though it is kind of a out there concept at least when it comes to games.
Makes me chuckle a bit when some can not see that the armory is a evolution of the job/subjob system though.

Assuming your thinking what I'm thinking, I don't mind having two systems in play: one for the soloers and the casual FFXIV gamer and jobs for the party-orientated folks. I could care less if I don't reach end level with the new jobs, as long as I can take the classes like Pugilist or Conjurer or whatever to R50 by myself (or duo or trois).Solo/casual players missing out - This is another big issue, the fact they have designed the new job system for party oriented play means solo/casual players won't get to enjoy them to their full extent as hardcore/party players would, instead theyre left with classes. This by design seems to favour one party of players over the other, im sure most players are looking forward to jobs. Infact all players will have the issue when playing solo which undoubtedly all will at times.
Let the party goers have their cake, as long as they don't take mine away.

Hopefully this doesn't get buried, but can someone explain to me what is wrong with classes as they exist now? Where there's a tool for every class, and you become that class when you put the tool on (primarily), and you have access to many (most?) of the abilities you learned from other classes, to then put together a mix of things that works well for you?
What is wrong with that?

No class is unique, no class brings anything to a party (recent healing changes somewhat changes this, but all frontline are still exactly the same with a different weapon graphic.)
Nothing works well in FFXIV, which is why they're introducing the job system. They wouldn't be adding the job system if they decided the class system is absolutely perfect.
You really give me the impression you as the rest of your anti XI disciples just read the title of this thread and rushed to post the common anti XI slogan "Go play XI".
I mean how about you address the concerns and stay on topic? Have you read the posts?
I for one was looking forward to a new battle system with XIV and excited about it.
It's only after the cracks of the Armoury/Class system surfacing and seeing all the different issues with it that i feel the need to raise the issue. I have played the most of the FF series, and not a single one of them i had an issue with nor failed in anyway as XIV did. There's obviously issues with it that SE realizes and are trying to address patch by patch.
So really, it's time to stop making XIV some sort of Eutopia, take off those XIV rose tainted spectacles and give constructive feedback for the future of this game. I consider myself a loyal fan to SE, but people really need to get out of this white knight mentality where you're willing for SE to dump on your cupcake and gladly call it icing.
I think there is certainly good in FFXIV and definite potential, otherwise i wouldn't be still here. However, there is alot of bad and it needs to be addressed, heck, even SE welcomes our bad feedback.
And for the love of all that is holy, stop trolling with the "Go play XI" slogan, XI is already being copied to a good extent for the benefit and success of this game.
It would be if it was balanced the right way and each class had skills that truely defined them, but that barely exists. The game is set up like an open pallet game (aka no class/job, you design how you want) but it sticks in a somewhat defined role, due to restrictions and such: aka weapons determine most of how your combat works (DoW get terribly low magic stats and vise-versa) along with the whole AoE button not being available (changed recently) to only the 2 mage classes. And of course normal stat points meant almost nothing for the most part...Sometimes i wish they would not have used the word "class" as the meta descriptor for weapons and there skill pools. People are still having difficulty wrapping there heads around the games base system even almost a year+ after the playing public got there hands on the game. There were just too many restrictions while trying to set it up as a fully custom game....so it was a mess and does not work too well. You really need to go one way or the other...the middle is everyone being good at everything or most things.
