I kind of like it, I imagine that the Japanese version has hints of this archaic talk and it gets translated over because a lot of Japanese RPGs end up having a thou here and there lol. That said, there are quite a few "accents/language styles" in FFXIV and I like that particularly (every group has their own tempo).

Pirate talk is a bit rough for me to read though lol. I just figure it would be like an accent in real life that I don't "prefer to hear", but would listen to regardless because delivery does not always indicate or dictate the content of the words.

Besides Ramuh and Urianger are there any other characters that speak in this kind of English? I don't think it's unreasonable to include a handful of characters that have this style. The vast majority of Eorzea speak very recognizable English (maybe with a few foreign sounding phrases like "must needs" or "anon" )

Just read some Tolkien books and be done forever with difficulties understanding old English..

It suits Ramuh. It suits Urianger. period.

I don't mind the middle English that gets used, as both it is a fantasy world and it gives my English lit skills a workout. (Yes I said middle English, old would be nigh unreadable to anyone outside those trained to.)

Correct. It's almost exactly the same too, modern syntax and structure with a bunch of "thee" and "thou" type words thrown in.

If there's one area the localization team is actually faithful, it's this.

Hmmm expand your horizons with some new words? But yeah I enjoy this style myself though I'm glad it's not overused.

And boy am I glad for that, because if they actually went full-out classical Japanese, I would cry.

This Lord Ramuh takes not kindly to the presence of lesser beings in this Lord Ramuh's forest...oh god spare me that hell, I might agree with the OP if they went that far.

Pirate speak is really the only thing I have issue with when it comes to our localization. It's to the point I don't read any Limsa quests and gave up on Rogue quests as well. Too annoying to read.

Without reading any replies here I can already tell that the OP would never survive a single hour at a Renaissance festival without losing his mind or getting eaten alive by us XD

By the way - that sentence in the screenshot - I remember that cutscene and understood every word.

Oh boy, I can't wait for the update where Ramuh drops out of the sky like "sup dawg, we gon fight up in dis tree to see who da most swoll in da woods".
Yep - I am pretty sure this is how the OP wants dialogues worded. You nailed it right on.

At least it's far better than how some of the people I work with talk in real life (see the other post I quoted above) LOL. The game's interpretation of pirate talk is definitely more sophisticated than these kids are. In a sense, though, in games we expect every character to speak perfectly as if they have a Masters college education. having some NPCs talk like they do just reminds us that there is a bit of educational diversity even among the NPC's. To me that's more realistic.

Of course, the folks posting here would rather have everything simplified into abbreviations that they can understand. take server maintenance for example:

"GTG. Upgradez. BRB in couple hrs. TTYL. CYA."

This is the only way some players would understand to log off before getting confused as to why they were suddenly booted tonight for maintenance
