I respectfully disagree with the OP - I really enjoy the archaic words and phrases used, as it helps create the setting of Eorzea/Hydaelyn as a world that is nothing like our Earth, but a whole different planet with it's own unique languages, culture and dialect - it's worldbuilding at it's most basic.

Unfortunately, a lot of players (especially those who hate roleplaying and only play for 'the shinez'), regard the use of such language as being ill-fitting, even pretentious, and thus complain about it. Which is saddening, especially given the dedication the writing and translations teams have towards creating the game's narrative.
