I'm against it as a first resort, except in the case of trolls. Unfortunately, sometimes it's necessary, and I say that having been on the receiving end of a completely justified kick.
A very good rotation can be obtained even without parsers at all purely on theorycraft basis of calculation of potencies etc, it's how most of work done before finetuning of minor details with parsers.
Most people are not capable of inventing a good rotation themselves, so they still will need some outside source for that.
You can't learn just by looking at numbers. You need to really look deep inside of your abilities and think deeply about a proper way to use them. You can do this part without parsers, just not many bother themselves. You can (if you know corresponding class) easily spot those 1-2-3 crowd that don't bother with maintaining debuffs and dots or have holes in rotation.
Not needed. This would only feed the min-maxing trolls and give people another excuse to argue on the forums with stupid posts like "WHM vs SCH: Why is WHM Lacking?" or "SMN is Broken."
Furthermore, the first time someone gets flamed because their DPS wass off 3% from what it "should have been" or they arent allowed to join a party because "you'll never hit 40k dmg/min, with that setup" you may as well board up the server becasue only the elitist cheesedi**s will contiue to play in that environment.
your example is an obvious exaggeration, everyone you fear getting a parser already has one and the discrimination you describe already happens they just dont post your dps in party so they cant be punished all they have to do is say you suck and kick you, or not even that just a blind kick not having an official parser only hurts console players and people who dont want to break the rulesNot needed. I sort of agree with SE for not putting a the parser in the game, i dont mind people using them to test people dps in raid and other events in game but i think if SE was to implement one in to the game as option it could give Elitist players another way to lock players out of content on top the current ways they use but with a in game parser they would start saying you must have 400+ dps or kick so i dont want one in the game
Add parsers in to the game.
Let players opt in or out of being able to see the parser window or not.
Let players opt in or out of having their numbers beeing seen in the DUTY FINDER trials and raids.
Let party leaders for PARTY FINDER set the party's parser visibility settings (overrides individual settings).
Alright, someone point out to me how this system can be used to hurt the feelings of anti parser players cause I want to see a real 100% accurate and detailed parser that my fc party can use for coil.
That would hardly work... elitist will just kick/harrass those than don't show their numbers.
this game needs parsers.
The amount of new players/casual players that are hitting end game and have only expierenced echo and over geared situations is the majority. This individuals dont know how to handle mechanics because they haven't had to learn them, They dont fully understand all the actions they have access too, and havent been pushed to learn how to get better with gated content. (I find a lot of people have never tried titan ex, and will never learn the fight, as they no longer need to clear it to progress.)
So with a parser in game, people will be forced to see there numbers compared to others and ask questions to why they are not as good as others. With the current setup, most people think they are bad ass, when the pld is over dpsing them...
Also With the ToS banning parsers, those that do run them are afraid to say anything, and really not able to help in those raids with out fear of getting banned.
