It's strange that so many people seem to think they know they're doing fine on a DD job without actually having seen a single parse of themselves. The truth is, you can not know. There is more to playing a DD job than reading up on the optimal rotation (that someone else has parsed, mind you) and then trying to copy it. It's also, for example, about small differences between two DDs doing the same rotation but handling mechanics a bit differently, and even things such as how they push their buttons (do they queue all their abilities). Without a parser, looking at two DDs who seem to be doing the same things in same order doesn't tell anyone anything about their actual damage, and there can be a huge difference between the two. Simply knowing the optimal rotation does not make anyone a good DD in practice.

Not having parsers available for all platforms (PC/PS3/PS4) was the biggest mistake SE has made for this game. It gives yet another unfair advantage to PC players (on top of all the other stuff like Guildworks, Radar, ACT triggers, faster load times, etc) when said platform already has a pretty big field advantage from the get go.

Faster load times are unfair in your opinion? Really?

I suppose everyone should run like they're on a PS3 then. Nevermind taking advantage of the hardware some people have on their PCs, or the hardware on the PS4.

I am a PC player with a high end rig utilizing an SSD. You cannot say that loading faster is not an advantage when hunts are so popular that marks die within 30 seconds of being announced.

Quite the mindset when you think a parser will always lead to negativity.

There also is a large group, who aren't elitists, who enjoy the game by theorycrafting, looking for optimal situations, even min-maxing. It contradicts when they want us to figure out stuff, but don't give us the tools don't you think?

When you say that "there are people in this game who play to have fun", you implicitly imply that another approach isn't fun. It might not be for you, but for others it is. The other approach might tell you they don't think it's fun when they have to carry you through encounters for example. The fact that you think people "need" this to know how to play the game can be looked at from a different angle: maybe you (you in general) don't know how to play this game "rotation" wise (enmity/dps/healing) and a parser could help you.

There are two groups and both groups have their rotten apples. People who would abuse a parser and those who don't want it because they like being lazy. Let's not forget we can choose who we play with and there are enough people playing this game to find like minded people to play with.

It's an advantage, but it's not unfair.

That FFXIV is available on PC at all means that various computer setups are expected.

How miserable do you think any PC gaming experience would be, if every game developer catered to the lowest common denominator? Why buy more expensive hardware at all?

Even for healers/tanks the only metric we have now is whether someone died or not and whether tank can hold agro or not. Like DPS can do at least some damage and dodge mechanics or not. But we don't get specifics.
Parsers on other hand will not affect only dps - good one allows to track HPS and overheal% as well as damage taken and tank cooldowns, so there will be additional info for insults even for non-dps classes.

You don't need a parser to have a good performance. Anyone can go to forum, read about proper rotation and train themselves on a dummy to automation of perfect execution. For most people who are underperforming the main problem lies in not that they don't see numbers, but that they are ignorant to the proper handling of their class and no parser will fix this.
The only thing where parser is required when you want to achieve extreme results, but this can be done via teamwork with some PC friends and a whole another level of dedication.

I am against kicking anyone, be it dps, healer or tank in DF parties. DF is for helping people, many got their bonuses from that. PF is a different story and no one is safe there, dps can be kicked as fast as healer/tank if leader think they are underperforming.

    1. People wouldn't have figured out the perfect rotation without parsers to begin with.
    2. Isn't it a bit weird that we need to look up how to perform well on the internet instead of learning using an in game tool.

Not weird at all. Optimal gaming strategies in every genre have oft utilized outside methods to analyse and refine playstyles.

Savestates and hex viewers for speedruns, calculators of various sorts...etc.

But where's the fun in that?
I mean if we had an ingame tool like a parser, everyone could use that instead to learn how to perfom well.

Whats the point of looking up something someone else has figured out. Isn't it part of the game experience to learn and figure out stuff on your own?
