    3.0 Relic Weapon Idea

As many know, it was recently said in an interview that the Zodiac questline will continue into 3.0 (but not until patch 3.1). A lot of players love this (they worked hard to earn their relics) and a lot of player do not (they believe its too hard for new players to join the relic questline). Here's my idea to hopefully make everyone happy (likely not possible - but it's worth a shot).

Completing the 2.0 relic in entirety grants the relic a beneficial "perk" (double attack +1% or something of the sort).

In 3.1 - even players without a relic can boot up the quest to earn the 3.1 weapon. The players without a fully completed 2.0 relic can earn a relic that is identical to the completed relic that 2.0 relic owners have (item level, DMG, etc.) EXCEPT for the beneficial "perk" (and the ability to modify stat arrangements per materia melding). Once a player earns a 3.1 relic, if they want the 2.0 perk, they can go back to the 2.0 content and take their 3.1 relic through the 2.0 upgrade quests (atma, animus, novus, nexus, zodiac, etc.).

3.0 will grant a unique perk, so will 4.0, so on and so on. Basically each expansion adds an additional perk to the relic but you're able to skip to the most recent relic (starting relic quest of a new expansion) of your choice if you ever fall behind).

    Thoughts?

The perk idea becomes a balancing issue. Something like this would cause raids to only want those people with that perk.

As to the idea that the 2.0 relic quest line would be hard for new players, it would be. Trying doing content that almost no one is doing anymore. Could the whole process be nerfed into the ground to compensate for this? Yes.

While I agree that many players worked hard for their relics, I do not agree with the desire to continue the relic into the expansion.

I disagree. It's not like raids only want people with relic weapons right now. There's several alternatives.

A weapon that has a chance to do double damage is pretty big. Can you imagine that on a BLM? Pretty sure that hardcore raiding guild push for every advantage now, this would only encourage it more.

That being said, I am not against the relic weapons gaining procs and unique statuses like they had in FF11. If they made a quest that adds x proc/status to the relic, that would be great.

Yeah - I agree for BLM that would be overpowered. I merely provided an example. They could be job specific perks or what-have-you. And you're right - it obviously can't be "too" big of a benefit that it makes the perkless relic irrelevant. I think item level / DMG are the most important factors. As long as new players can jump right into 3.1 and earn the most powerful relic I think the problem is solved. Then you tack on a small perk for those that completed the 2.0 relic - and you make everybody happy.

Except that it would not make everyone happy. Obviously the players that do not have this perk will undoubtedly be unhappy.

I'm unhappy that I have to work and don't have billions of dollars. Can't have it all.

I share your unhappiness in this regard. This however, does not apply to the discussion at hand.

A perk like you have suggested would likely cause more problems. While it may make the persons whom have completed their relics happy about an added bonus, it will make those of whom have not, for whatever reason, unhappy. Like I said, this would be entirely different from SE adding a series of quests that add job specific procs/status effects to those weapons.

SE don't need to do anything, carry on giving slight nerfs to each step and everythings fine, so what if it takes a new player a while to catch up, its part and parcel of starting a mmo later into its life, your gonna be behind, people know this going intoo it

Nerfing of the older stuff is a lot better at this point. Alex maps can be nerfed via number of tomes, Materia melding can be nerfed (IE: Lower the amount of % it goes down or remove failing alltogether in 3.1).

Or you could even let anyone with the current relic start the quest line a bit later than someone without. The person without would have to do a bit of grinding and wouldn't get the perk of going faster, but the end result would be the same but with 1 party having less grind.
