    Relic Weapons: Going Forward

I know there has been speculation that our relics will 'end' with the upcoming patch with something new to replace them, but since we haven't actually heard SE respond I figured I'd offer my suggestion.

    First, the problems:
*Players with relics might not want their investment invalidated
*Players without relics want a way to join in without having to do irrelevant content
*Other players have been frustrated that their weapon lacks relevance (which may or may not have affected their continuing desire to acquire one)

My solution to these problems is fourfold; the third and fourth parts being the most important:
*Keep the ability upgrade the current relic in 3.0 (solves problem 1)
*Allow players to somehow jump-start the process for a new 3.0 relic through a quest to find some base object, just like in 2.0 (solves problem 2)
*Give players carrying over relics from the previous iteration a +5 or +10 ilevel compared to 'newer' relics that skipped the previous steps (solves problem 3)
*Once 4.0 is released reset this process; put 2.0 and 3.0 relics on the same plain with an identical ilevel bonus (5 or 10), so the upgrade process is normalized for each additional expansion instead of creating an endless number of tiers (prevents the previous solution from getting out of hand, or people being left behind)

In this fashion the following ilevel modifications would apply, using +5 as an example:
    A 2.0 relic carried into 3.0 +5
    A 3.0 relic in 3.0 +0
    A 2.0 OR 3.0 relic in 4.0 +5
    A 4.0 relic in 4.0 +0
    And so forth...

Update: Thanks Kiara (and MageBlack) for the info, on page 2. Looks like relic will continue to be upgraded in 3.0

Question is, will they be BiS?
A lot of ppl will say relic is for vanity and could care less about its stats when it is compared in 3.0 as a lot of weps via crafting / merchants etc will probably be stronger naturally. So they would have to dramatically increase the relic that is crossing over into 3.0 ilvl almost on par with the new raid wep which seems a bit much considering ur idea of the jump start relic being superior than fresh relics. I'm almost certain SE will find a way to cheese it and just skip all of this headache by starting fresh and giving ppl a cheap title that shows " hey world! I completed my relic post 3.0 "

I sure hope I can use my relic in the expansion in some way, I've put in more than 10 million on materia only, and probably botched 3 millions due to their silly 50% chance to meld IV materia. Would be pretty bad if my relic was just a waste and I could've bought something fun for the gil instead

My suggestion would be to have it so if you upgrade a 2.0 relic you keep the custom secondary stats.

If you get a new 3.0 relic you have default stats that might not be as good as custom ones from 2.0.

I agree that BiS is a poor idea; but somewhere between that and 'just for vanity' is a much better spot to aim for. 'Relevance' is a very loaded term, but I think that's what they should aim for, even if the exact definition might not be agreeable to everyone. That's why I used smaller numbers in my example. It's not much, but it is a bit closer I think. There are many cool looking weapons in the game that take a lot less effort than relic, and a number of weapons that deserve their boost in power and their position. There's a sweet spot somewhere = D

I have a feeling that the current relic will come to an end, not just because they have mentioned it before, but because making it so that all players start out fresh on a new relic quest on even footing seems to be the fairest way to do things.

Now a lot of people don't want all their time and effort they put into something to have been cast aside when the expansion goes live, however that is the nature of games of this type.

Relic came already to an end since last quest step. You give up your Relic weapon to get a Zodiac weapon. I'm sure in 3.0 we will upgrade the Zodiac weapon to another legendary weapon set.

Why would a quest take a lvl 50 weapon and upgrade it to a lvl 60 one? Why not just give players a fresh one?

Also, as I understand it, the zodiac weapon is supposed to be the fully upgraded version of the relic weapon. It isn't a new weapon. Just one that is completed the total upgrade process.

Give the ability to customize secondary stats every time you want from an NPC completely free if you've done the old relic grind. If you haven't your new relic will have fixed stats. It's a bonus that would definitely make the cut for me. Players that went through the horrid old grind must have some sort of bonus, nothing game breaking like some dude suggested above (5-10 ilevels more is a no), just a slight bonus...but please, nothing vanity related, lately, I feel like I'm playing more FFXIV a glamour reborn (ex primals = vanity, odin = vanity, ultros and typhon = minion = vanity, gilgamesh = vanity, seriously, stop this SE...).

Smart thing would be for an entirely new weapon that could at any time be COMBINED with a current relic for a small stat boost. That would reward current relic holders for their hard work without leaving any future players out in the cold, because they could always go back and complete an initial relic to combine with the newer weapon.
