I posted something similar in the other thread, but I thought this specific issue deserves a little more attention.
From what I understand, after accumulating the maximum amount 'attachment points' most equipment can be converted into Materia.
My concern, however, is this:
First, will there be HQ Materia?
If there is not going to be HQ Materia, then this entire section can be ignored. However, I'm concerned as to how much an improvement the HQ Materia will be over NQ Materia.
Example:
If a Banneret Lance worth 50,000 Gil creates a Materia of STR+5 worth 60,000 Gil.
(Hypothetical ofcourse, but this is going to be a comparison)
And a Banneret Lance+1 worth 500,000 gil creates a Materia of STR+7... the Materia would have to be priced over 500,000 gil to make a profit, but the problem is, would people really pay 450,000+ gil for an extra +2 STR?
I'm sure there are some who would, but largely HQ weapons would never be turned into Materia unless the Materia is significantly more powerful in proportion to the cost of the HQ weapon.
NM Materia
Materia generated from NM gear would also have a similar problem.
Example:
If a Banneret Lance worth 50,000 gil generates a materia of STR+5, and a Champion's Lance worth 1,500,000 gil generates a materia of STR+7, I would guess that hardly anyone would convert the NM equipment into Materia.
Basically the point is, unless the Materia is proportionately more powerful in relation to the difficulty in acquiring the equipment necessary to craft the Materia, the more difficult to obtain items will rarely, if ever, be crafted into Materia, except for a few who place an inordinant amount of value in having the best equipment, and if they are converted they would only be worth a fraction of the price that could be made in selling the equipment themselves.
Obviously it is unknown whether or not Each HQ version of a weapon has it's own unique materia or whether the HQ weapons will merely act as HQ ingedients by increasing the durability & quality of the synthesis, or whether or not Quality will have any effect on the Materia itself at all. However, there is a large gap in the price of certain pieces of equipment, and unless the higher price is compensated by vastly superior materia, HQ and NM equipment may never or at least rarely ever be converted into Materia.
