SE please fix fullscreen alt+tab, player feedback

For me this is one of the biggest issues that affects this game at the moment.

in my laptop i use 2 1gb radeon cards in xfire configuration, as some ppl may already be aware xfire (and sli out the box) will not work in windowed mode this isn't a game issue it's a DirectX issue and will never be changed.

so to make use of both cards i would have to run in fullscreen mode, now here lies the problem in fullscreen mode i lose alot of functionaly of my pc, i can't use my WMI keys to change the volume or skip track on media player cos that causes the OSD to pop up and kill FFXIV, i can't check the web for detais or use my IM or VoiP to chat with other players witout shutting down ffxiv 1st.

Using 3rd pt apps that allow you to run fullscreen "windowed" mode is far from any solution cos it's deamed illegal by SE (and for good reason), and Xfire will not function in this mode so it serves no real purpose anyway.

this isn't just down to Xfire though, you also lose Vsync (even if in most cases you need to force it ^^) and lots of screen space for the ingame widgits running in windowed mode.

i would also like to see ffxiv lose process priority when not focused, this is the 1st game/application i have ever use the hangs on to them when not focused. this is annoying cos my laptop fans need to spin at speed to keep the cpu/gpus chilled when they shouldn't be working on processing anyting, if i want to take a break from the game and watch a movie or somthing i have to shut down and log back in every time, just to keep my pc quite. this means i can't keep my bazzar open when i'm not playing and have to go through the whole process of logging back in each time i wanna take a hour break.

Those are some very big requests that you have. All of these errors stem from a much bigger and more complicated problem.
The Graphics card problems are probably going to take months, maybe years for SE to fix.

As for the not being able to do other things while playing FF14, just have a second computer for video or internet.

i do aggree in part to what you are saying and i do not expect a fix any time soon, but it seems the content is their primary consern atm and little issues like this are getting over looked.

I don't beleive this is a huge task graphics wise as the fix is just change the way FFXIV creates a DirectX device on launch which isn't a huge task, i know this from making a DirectX apps in the past. i'm not asking them to fix all the graphical issues with the game now that would be a huge task lol.

as for the game hanging on the the resources when not focused i don't know enough about this to comment but i doubt this will be trivial this bit is probably a huge task, but i'd like to see it fixed even if it's not for a year or so.

Think SE is stuck in a hard position right now. Ideally, the directx issue would be being worked on alongside all other additions. I won't be upgrading my PC for sure until the DX is upgraded.

i'd love to see a DirectX up date but it took them 10 years to do this in FFXI (from 7-9 i think it was) to even allow a windowed mode, DX9 though is a good platform to base a game on it's one of the longest lived versions, DX10/11 offer more featurs that i'd like to see in FFXIV but XFire and SLI would still be a issue if DX10/11 was used as far as i know they just handle the 2nd card diffently when running in windowed mode but don't fully utilize them

FYI, multi-GPU in windowed mode is not a DX9 or FFXIV-specific issue, its an ATI Radeon driver issue. SLI works just fine with Nvidia cards in windowed mode, you still get the slight performance hit of running in windowed vs. fullscreen so a true fullscreen fix would still be welcome.

I play on 1600x900 (1920x1080 native mon.)windowed mode. Great for checking recipes and not freezing/crashing the game.

    Just my 2 cents.

i said SLI "out of the box" you have to force it to use SLI and you will get glitches (not in all game but they will be there). i know ATI cards can not do this cos Nvidia is better at multi-gpu rendering then ATI is. i alos never blamed SLI/Xfire not working in windowed mode on either FFXIV or DirectX it's jst the way it is and there is noting wrong with that. what i'm saying is we should be able to play full screen mode w/o all the crashes every time we try to do somthing ffxiv doesn't like, like lower the volume.

Edit: sorry if this sounds like i'm flaming you, i assure you i'm not.

Yeah just go waste another $500+ bucks (depending on how powerful you want it) so you can do something that pretty much every other modern mmo allows you to do. Lets ignore the problem at hand and when the next SE mmo comes out we can all look at the threads complaining about the same problems SE MMOs have had since they started doing MMO games...
