What purpose does it serve to have a retainer outside if it is still linked to the market? Why are developers wasting their time with frivolous nonsense?

I'm more concerned about how they're always on about server load this and server load that. Limiting outdoor furnitures, limiting plots, limiting wards. Then they go and do this. Granted, concept-wise it fits very nicely into the "neighbourhood" thing. But yeah, on the technical side it just makes me wonder....

It's just another fluff/vanity option, doesn't hurt anybody, but I personally would prefer development time spent on things that are fun more than things that do nothing, that's my opinion though.

I think outdoor retainers still counts towards the limit of outdoor furnishings. I don't really do any of the furnishes of the FC houses in my FCs, so I cannot say that is the case with 100% certainty. Though I think I recall an FC-mate commenting about it.
I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
I want them to make it possible to have your retainer out to battle with you. They should scale to your level, though. This could really help a lot of newer people, or older members that just want to take it easy with leveling. These days before you know it you're lvl50 without even trying, cause of the leves and fates.

We would rather have had another furnishing slot over a pointless/redundant retainer on our ridiculously meager 20/20 small FC plot. So many options for outdoor furnishings, no where to put them.
The best use I've had for my retainers outside so far:
1) Able to check sales history without taking items off of sales.
2) Able to check sales history without running to summoning bell.
3) Cute wittle Lalafell guards that stare at you when you get near my entrance.
4) A way to show off glamour you don't want your character to wear.
Then again, I'm just making the best of things.
I'll confirm they count.

I'm wondering this too. I honestly think it would be really nice if you were able to bazaar things that you don't already have listed on the market, or if you could use it as a way to give friends/fc/ls members some type of automatic discount on things that you do have listed on the market at the current price, or sell only to certain groups, but as it stands it really is just a way of showing off your retainers. Which is nice in itself, but it could be so much more.

As a leader of a FC I dedicate one of my retainers strictly for FC items that we would sell for FC bank. (Makes it easier to manage where the gil goes when items sell) This is the first time that all members are actually able to view and track using the history what the FC is selling to make gil.
Grocery Store
Even though a player can add wishlist of what food they want on market board, we have a dedicated retainer for most popular foods & potions... basically all consumables that members can grab right outside the house before their next adventure and knowing the gil will be going to a FC member or even better, the in FC bank.

I had really hoped that someone at SE had thought this through and that they could be used as a FC Store but unfortunately since everything you list is also on the gets placed on the MB you cannot offer FC discounts without everything getting snatched up in .001 seconds and relisted at a higher price. It's just a pointless fluff item like a minion or chocobo barding. It really serves absolutely zero purpose in the game.Grocery Store
