You do not need to level all crafts to 50 or even 15. With just Goldsmith and Carpenter up to 2.4, I was able to make plenty.

To make money any time, in any MMO, you have to observe the market board/AH/Economy on each specific server. For starters, observe how much gil is flowing in each of the professions markets.

What may be profitable on one server may not be on another. The lack of goldsmiths on one server will make goldsmith profession goods, pricey and on high demand, while on servers with an overload of goldsmiths it will make their goods cheap and on low demand.

The only way to get an idea of what is happening on each server is that you take the time to look in to what your server sits around. Once you figure out whats happening, which profession you should choose will be pretty evident.

In summary, find the profession with the highest demand and highest gil flow on your server. Take it up. When the highest demand and gil flow changes, you change with it.

I started crafting after 2.4 was released, every single gils i had and made went into gearing up my crafters. Last night I failed 32 times straight to meld +3 control to Artisan's offhand and it was 4th slot with 13% success rate. that was about 1.2 million gils went down the drain.

But on the other hand, I crafted Artisan's apron right after it, i meld 3 x +6 craftsmanship, +4 control, +3 cp to it without single fail. since I ran out of gils, I had no choice to put it on MB...>_<

Your other options : go farm gil and materials by running Duty Roulettes, completing challenge log etc. Buy materials with Soldiery & GC Seals, craft/sell, repeat until you're back up top. Sometimes money right now is the solution, sometimes patience is a better one.

Personally I make most of my gil spiritbonding. A single hour of Urth's Gift returns a net profit of roughly 1.5 - 2 million gil. Do it for 5 hours during a weekend, and roughly another 7.5 - 10 million gil is gained.

I craft a little on the side, but as someone who doesn't have the endgame crafting gear, the sale of crafted items doesn't even come close to the income I generate through the sale of materia. So if it's just money you're looking for, I'd consider SB'ing instead.

Im a little perplexed at how someone can be end game with all coil done, all the mounts and still havent figured out a way to make gil.

If you have zero crafts leveled, then I wouldnt bother with it. It will costs you millions and millions and many more millions to get all your crafts up, have all the expensive tools and gear and melds done and all the subcrafts done and all the masterbooks done. And when you finally have succeeded in doing all that, you will be competing for end game crafting with top crafters who all have 8 digits of gil on their names.

Hi, usually with crafting you first spend money leveling a crafter and later you can recover it selling goods. When you already are making money you make money as you go spending, but leveling always means spending money.

At high level crafting the gear and melds are a lot of money, but you will also be earning money too. It then becomes like a circle: you spend money on the crafters so you can earn money, that later you spend on the crafters, to be able to earn more, etc. You might as well keep earning money at your ilevel without entering the new highest level crafting and still make a lot of money. Except relic melds and housing, and crafted melded items for people who want the max gear at once, a lot of gil is not needed.

Now you have the Ixali quests that are very good to help you level a crafter. Once you can do the highest Ixali quests you obtain oaknots than can be exchanged for ehcatl sealants. They used to sell for 350.000 gil and now you can obtain one daily without much effort or time. I think you need one crafter a bit high to craft the items for the most difficult quests, but not all of them are difficult. If you already have one of high level, it helps a lot to level the lower ones since you can craft with the high one and deliver with the low level one.

You can start to make money before reaching level 50 (maybe 30 or less) and without having several crafters. But eventually you will want to have all crafters at least level 15 and bit by bit all to 50, for the cross-class skills.

To choose the first class I would look at what items are most demanded on your server, or you want more. Once you have one class at level 50 (or lower maybe) I would look at what cross-class skills you want sooner and level to 15 that class first. Eventually for the higher crafts you will want all to 50, but you don't need it to start earning money.

This site http://www.ffxivguild.com/ has nice information (maybe some exp rewards or items not updated) about leveling, levequests, etc.

In my case I have had times I spent a lot of time leveling a craft, then for a long time stay crafting just a bit daily (with just a bit daily you can save a lot of money in the long run) and doing other things, then I had spare time and leveled crafting again. For example, you end a step of the relic quest, are fed up of relic, and then craft a lot, later you get tired of crafting and work more on the relic quest, etc.

Looking at the market boards to see what sells quickly and at a good price is very important before deciding what to craft, this changes a lot. I didn't like the idea of crafting but started to craft when I leveled the BLM to obtain swiftcast, while I waited the queues (main PLD second WHM I wasn't used to waiting.) Then I enjoyed the crafts and continued to level them from time to time.

You will still need some cash for starting investment. If you are not craft, gathering or spirit bond you can still make gil by constantly doing roulette and running

if you do Ixali daily (to max rank 7) you will get 9 oaknots per day, you can trade it in to get ehcatl sealant which worth about 270k to 370k depends on server.
