What about a JPN-NA thoughts corner?

As a person who has been playing this game for a few months now, I try to glean any and all information from forums on my off time. Once in a while, I see a post wondering how the Japanese community feels about a particular aspect or issue of the game and maybe its vice-versa for the other side. My idea is how about a monthly newsletter type thread where an appointed forumer from each side picks the top 5 most talked about issues of the game of their community and presents it to the other. The forumers of each side would most probably have to be bilingual for this to work

    What do you guys think?

Just putting Texa's post here in bold for the March Edition ( Edition? What is this, a magazine? Hm...). All credits goes to him/her. Please take the time to thank Texa for the efforts.

I posted this in a different thread when Japanese criticisms of the game came up and Shougun asked that I move it here I hope that's okay.

Re: about Japanese criticism of the game earlier. I went through 2ch for a while and found a good summary of complaints from their PoV of things, I'll do my best to translate up to 63. Please note my Japanese is pretty basic, I've done QA assistance work with experienced translators before but my skills are based on finding information and rephrasing. I'm subbing out gisgis with salt where it comes up because the terms are more or less the same in context to the game. I'm leaving the ones I don't know how to approach in Japanese. Here's an original copy of the list. Please note, I do not agree with all of these ^ ^u don't shoot the messenger

    1. The promotional materials and ads were misleading
    2. The back of the PS3 version case was originally misleading
    3. FFなのにWoWとRIFTを何の工夫もせず上辺だけ劣化パクリ&改悪問題
    4. The battles are boring as a beginner.
    5. The eSports elements that they try to push aren't acceptable in Japan
    6. Lack of content
    7. The concept of item levels and the illusion of choice
    8. Underlying cancer called GCD (Global Cool-Down)
    9. Nothing is really rare. The markets are not functioning as intended and it's impossible to sell things.
    10. The FATEs are crude
    11. Handling of crafters and gatherers (I'm assuming ギャザクラ is a contraction of crafters and gatherers)
    12. Weekly restrictions
    13. Inflation ( デノミ is Japanese slang for inflation)
    14. Raids- Godawful endgame
    15. Duty Finder
    16. 皆無に近いオリジナル要素、場面に合わない背景音楽
    17. The loot system
    18. "Novice Network" isn't aimed at novices
    19. 対人関連 (I think it means avoidance of interaction? Linked Jisho)
    20. Alliance raid
    21. Housing
    22. Structural problem caused by the expansion
    23. 2.5秒おきにきめられたボタンをおすだけ。爽快感はない。
    24. You aren't really fighting the enemies you're doing line gimmicks on the floor
    25. 歴代FFのようなサポートアビリティやサポートジョブ、そんなビルド要素はない
    26. 使いまわしモーション。目に痛いエフェクト。何をしてるのかわからないマスゲーム。意味
    27. Not enough distinguishing traits between movement in races
    28. Some skills do not work properly. It's taking longer and longer to do a "rotation" to reach maximum dps
    29. Even though there are a variety of skills, many lack distinguishing features
    30. 範囲攻撃と単品攻撃のバランスをとれないからいつも範囲攻撃連打か単品攻撃連打になる
    31. You can only ever use skills and combos in one order if you want to achieve "maximum dps"
    32. Upon meeting your exp target there's really no reason to do FATEs
    33. The forced inclusion of FATEs in the Zodiac and Relic quests
    34. ギャザクラは河本のせい (I THINK it says the DoH/DoH woes are Nobuaki Komoto's fault)
    35. マイスター専用レシピにより、アーマリーシステムという自己完結プレイは不可能に (something about how the armories aren't implemented very well???)
    36. Crafter specialization skills are useless
    37. Locking new recipes to crafter specializations only even though you can still see them
    38. "The strongest weapon ever" is temporary
    39. Lack of rationality to level crafters and gatherers after expansion
    40. The top perk to leveling them was materia melding, but then they added npcs that can meld
    41. Weekly limit to token acquisition
    42. Having to wipe to reset cooldowns
    43. I did not feel a sense of accomplishment upon clearing I only felt exhausted
    44. そうさせるだけの理不尽なギミック (really vague)
    45. The true challenge in a boss fight is never the boss, it's the other party members
    46. フェーズごとに切って無敵状態でテストしている無能開発
    47. 調整が甘い状態で数少ないエンドコンテンツを実装している
    48. It's really difficult to learn new fight mechanics without voice chat
    49. Duty Finder doesn't ding
    50. MMORPG no longer
    51. Close to none of the original elements remain
    52. Background music not suitable for the scene
    53. You can only clear once a week for 2 drops, but it's an 8 person party
    54. 無駄なまでにクリアするのが面倒なコンテンツ程、報酬が良い ( I think this could be about the same as "lack of horizontal progression")
    55. Dine and dash players (not stopping to say hello and goodbye)
    56. 運の悪い者は永遠に手にいられない。
    57. Even if you clear people will still be salty about the clear
    58. FF XIV wasn't designed with pvp in mind
    59. Some battles rely on whether or not you have someone a specific job in your party for a clear
    60. There is no countermeasure against communication lag(latency?) at all
    61. Medium housing costs too much for what you're getting
    62. The small houses are way to narrow inside
    63. Automatic removal of housing

I'm not against this, I am quite curious about what the JP forums discuss and how they feel about certain balance issues or certain classes and google translate isn't exactly the most reliable source of translation.

Wouldn't be the first time EU is left out.

Just kidding, you probably didn't mean it that way. :P Sounds like an interesting idea. Although it might be difficult to figure out which topics are most talked about on the English forums because topics are often spread out into several threads.

I think EU is forgotten becuase of the fact most are happy to speak English, so their opinions tend to blend with NA's. So, perhaps a better method would be comparing English and Japanese speaking parts of the fanbase.

I can read Japanese and English, but I don't post in Japanese forums because I use Japanese all day every day and I am tired of it, to tell you the truth.
I try to brush up on my English skills, so I write in English forums.

And to tell you the truth, it takes a lot of time to read both forums.

A quick summary of what I have seen:
People on JP servers also want GC removed from Frontlines.
Some people want the Contents Finder (CF. In English Duty Finder) to be separated by "already cleared" and "not cleared yet".
A thread about how it's difficult to get people to do Bahamut raid
There is one thread (508 pages now) just for listing things you want added to the game.
There is a thread about adding a "password" feature to Party Finder listings, so you can only join a party if you know the password. I guess this is to let people from other servers join your party if Party Finder becomes cross-server.
A thread about changing the effect of Astrologians Benefic. (I don't play AST, so I don't really understand what that skill does.)
There is a thread to debate problems with Dark Knights and propose changes to that class.
I've seen at least 2 threads asking for more severe penalties on people leaving a dungeon halfway through.

Just like in the English forums, many people feel differently about a lot of things.

There are some major differences I've noticed.
In JP forums, people tend to continue to write in one thread for along time. Even over years. It doesn't seem like people create 3, 4, or 5 threads about the same topic.

People don't seem to be complaining about quality of players or problems with groups in Contents Finder. (Unlike the long thread about Tales of the Duty Finder on the ENglish forums.) This is because, in general, Japanese put the needs of the group over the needs of the individual. In Japanese society, we think "Is what I want to do going to inconvenience other people". If so, we do not do that. (It is important not to cause trouble for others. It's basic manners and cornerstone of living on crowded a small island nation. Of course people want harmony. But more importantly, we need harmony and cooperation to live together)
But of course, there are some people who do not care. Like the ones who leave parties halfway through.

No threads about improving the community or complaining about hunts, that I could find at least. However, there are many, many threads like this on English forums.
Haven't seen any threads complaining about mentors.

But, like I said, some threads are 300 - 500 pages long and are years old I haven't read everything, and I won't. I don't know everything what is talked about in JP forums.

Very informative! Thanks for posting. It is interesting to note the differences and the things that are agreed on (GC restrictions gone being the most noteworthy) and the differences in confining things to one thread. I really wish I could read that dark knight thread, but I digress. Oh as for Benefic, Benefic is the equivalent to the Whm Cure spell or the Sch Medica spell.

I think they are referring to Benefic's insta-cast Benefic 2 proc which generally messes with your precast timing of Benefic 2 (like say before a tank buster).

It says "benefic". I don't even know what aspected benefic is because I've never played AST.
Basically, the thread is about how there is 15% chance the next benefic can be cast instantly.
The poster says this is in the way, and should be changed.
The reason is that sometimes they don't notice the proc.
Then cast too early and heal before the tank takes damage.
Then after they waste the cast, the tank takes damage.
But now, there is a cooldown, so they need to wait to heal the tank again.
