    Godbert and the syndicate

Multiple times he says he belongs to the syndicate. But when ever the syndicate is gathered he isn't there.

As powerful as he is in the hildibrand questline. And is against wrong doing, why does he not keep them in line?

He could stop most of ul'dah's problems it seems, but doesn't.

My theory is that the Hildibrand story is semi-canonical, as in one-directional. Everything that happens in Eorzea is canon to the Hildibrand storyline, but not everything that happens in the Hildibrand storyline is canon to Eorzea. Articulate gentlemen zombies, explosives to the face, goldsmith limitbreaks, it's all slapstick commentary on the game-world at large, but need not necessarily be true.

Outside of the Hildibrand storyline, Godbert might not be able to save Eorzea with Manderville Manliness. He may just be a wise, old master GSM.

He likes to wear robes at their gatherings, but he's there on occasion. Presence at the Syndicate seems to only be required if you actually expect to wield any of your power. The others don't seem to mind if someone doesn't want to influence the city-state's affairs, as it's more power to them (though they do kind of take it as a personal slight). Raubahn, for instance, won his seat on the Syndicate and took two years off to go they-have-no-idea-where.

I don't think they're limit breaks. I think they're the Adrenaline from Frontlines (Slaughter), which would make more sense since he's by himself.

Was he there when everyone walked out on the Domans?

I mean, kind of lose some respect for him if so... If he'd gone "They can help work on my luxury casino!", we'd maybe have seen the Gold Saucer finished in 2.3!

He was, and he indeed did side with Lorolito against the Domans - you see him clearly walk out with the rest of them. I immediately lost all respect for him when I saw that scene, and yes, every time he appears in the Hildibrand quests I just wanted to slap him across the face for what he did. Being a large ham and dispensing gifts to children during the Starlight Celebration does not redeem him for essentially telling a group of desperate political refugees fleeing Imperial tyranny to basically go and drop dead.

But I guess I'm just bitter against the Syndicate in general because my character is not only Ala Mhigan but also a PLD too (which makes her a Royalist). But anyway...

Odds are the Msq story and cs was finalized before Godbert was finalized as being a syndicate member, hence the placeholder npc in robes. Doesn't change that he didnt vote for domans but mighy explain it being out of character for him.

That being said I think I have to go with Anonymoose idea thats is semi canonical story. Since they are separate quest lines and have no clear time frame relative to each other they likely didnt want to show godbert and his eccentric nature in msq first. Alot of players do msq but not side stories, without doing hildy quests first Godbert wouldn't make alot of sense to some people. Now that Godbert is more of an established character he might show up in any future syndicate meetings but I doubt his decision over Domans will ever be addressed.

Guess only other option would be he became syndicate recently and replaced hooded guy? Idk if they ever said how long Godbert has been a member. I'll have to go back and watch msq cs to see if they show hooded guys face at all.

Now I'm kind of hoping for an official response informing us that the robed/masked "Godbert" at the meetings was simply an impostor Godbert had take his place to keep up appearances while he vacationed at Bronze Lake and played about with his son... Really sucks if it was the real Godbert, especially when he could have stayed and the result would have been the same if I recall correctly, since the majority still would have left. When you consider the Gold Saucer it doesn't even make sense for him to vote against the Domans, since you'd imagine he'd want more workers for that... Were it simply a hired impostor it could make sense though.

Unless he's normally absent... And he's not the one who hired the impostor!

Maybe he couldn't help them in front of the Syndicate and is working behind the scenes to help them with Gold Saucer like someone else has said. There a plenty of characters that are evil at face value, but end up being evil for the greater good.
