Is FFXIV Radio active?

Im sure everyone who plays this has experienced this.

but no, in all seriousness, in certain lighting, i tend to find things in this game, just, absolutely,m glow, and radiate, from skins, to names, to tiny lil details. its quite...unfortunate honestly. and i was just curious, if anyone has figured out a way to balance this odd lighting through some kind of config configuration

or if this is something im just gonna have to live with until i pop a third eye out meh butt crack or something.

This is High Dynamic Range lightning, or HDR for short. From my first day playing i could see that the game was absolutely saturated with the stuff, though i guess not everyone likes it - in certain scenes I think it's a fantastic effect and i'd rather always have it on.

What does puzzle me is that they do not have an toggle for it in the config, every other game I can think of has this as an optional effect, for the simple reason that it's quite a relatively big GPU hog and the game would run much better on low end systems with this turned off.

I honestly and seriously think that the bloom effect of the crystal engine is one of the most beautiful effects I've ever seen in a videogame. Sure the XIII version of this effect looks a lot better because it uses a bigger color range and has individual godrays but that doesn't mean that the XIV version of it still isn't amazingly beautiful.

The HDR is annoying when it is applied to names and linkpearls, otherwise I have no major issues with it and find the per-pixel lighting and shading to be excellent for a DX9 title.

yeah it is amazing for some things, but i dont like that my character Glows. if i dont Glow IRL, my chara shouldnt glow, i dont think ive ever turned into an oompa loompa swimming in flourecent lights before. if theres no way to turn it off yet, doubt ill be playing much, it hurts my eyes to see it all the time.

I agree with the OP and another in this thread.

I think there should be a way to turn it off, but I also think it's a great effect used in certain scenes. While I'm not sure if it's the same I think it's an attempt to give a sort of cinematic feel. I remember a particularly touching scene in Minority Report where I thought, "Whoa that's bright as hell, but cool as f**." Unfortunately the movie is saturated with it so much it's like you're staring directly into the sun for most of it.
