Moogles should not ever be playable.

Aw... I'm sorry to rain on your little parade, but they shouldn't be a playable race any more than they should be a mount.

If we make moogles a playable race, why not Chocobos? Why not beastmen? lol

Your logic perplexes me. Really? Your comparing chocobos as your argument? Don't just go choosing random creatures and acting as if moogles wouldn't make for a good race. I don't mind you having your opinion, but at least have a good argument besides the "why not just make the primals a playable race, or dodos, or goobbues?" silliness. I'm not just randomly choosing any creature and slapping racial attributes that aren't there.

Moogles have already been depicted as a viable race in the world of Ivalice (and please don't say "go play those games then" because you seem the type to use that line). Many reasons as to why a Mog race would fit in are obvious. Just a few to enlighten your closed mind:

    - Moogles have been playable a playable race in past FF games (FF6 and FFT)

    - They will look great in AF gear

    - Moogles have well-defined characteristics in the series and would be ripe for lore-building

    - Yoshi P is looking for more FF in his FFXIV, and so are we

    - FF fans adore moogles, why not let us play as one?

    - It would be a great segway into Engineer/Machinist/Gadgeteer jobs and classes

    - Read the OP

P.S. Beastmen would obviously make for a great race too. Yoshi P is already considering a dragon-like race. So ya, why not beastmen?

We already have lalafells. Moogles would be redundant.

Now there's an argument. And I agree, Lalafells have taken up the short race slot. Only thing I can say to that is that moogles could still fit into a short, but furry, category that differentiates itself from Lalafells' more gnomish builds. Also, YoshiP has considered (by name) a Viera-like race in his last Player's Poll letter. If they are willing to consider a race so similar to Mi'qotes, then I see no harm in speculating an interest on SE's part to consider a Mog race.

I respect your opinion HiirNoivl, and sorry for the harsh responses. I am, after all, this community's self-initiated official Moogle Rep.

Mog's were never considered. They weren't even a choice. Given that Yoshi is a person who likes a more FF-like game, I doubt he would ever consider letting Moogles be playable, since they haven't been for so long. They're NPCs, Helper-types, that would probably serve only as companions at most. I think that's how it should be.

I never said they were officially considered. I said they should be considered since a Viera-like race was considered.

Anyhoo, I understand the problems with moogles already existing as helpers in Eorzea. But since there are 2 types of moogles in FF canon (one being of the furball floaty type, the other the Ivalice type), it gives us the possibility for both to be in the game as related races split by species. Much like having various species' of the canine, feline, or reptilian type in biology. The proposed Mog race could just be a similar species to current furball moogles, except more anthropomorphic, less magical, and more dependent on technology or magitek.

    So we would have both:

    as well as...

Together in the same game. It'd be a moogle wonderland!!! Seriously tho, there is a demand amongst FF fans to be able to play as a moogle-type. I'm just brainstorming ways for it to be possible. Besides, Yoshi P is also already looking at FFXII for inspiration on future additions/homages to ARR.

Speaking of moogles being more of a helper type, you should take a gander at my other proposal for having moogles fill a companion type role.

Except that no in Eorzea follow this pattern. How would you fit Moogles into the world as playable races if the lore has them as highly reclusive sentients that are confined to forests? I'm actually curious how SE plans to suddenly open Eorzea up to moogles given this as well.

Please keep in mind that this is not Ivalice. I still think that first drawing is still a moogle.

Of course the first drawing is still a moogle. That's the whole point! They both belong to the moogle kingdom, class, order, and genus. They simply differ in species type, the last of the taxonomic ranks given to all living things in biology. So its still a moogle, just a different type of moogle. A playable type.

Thus, the lore of current furball moogles stays intact and untouched while the anthropomorphic "Mog" comes from a different region of Eorzea altogether. Perhaps a large island secluded away from the mainland off the eastern coast. Since furball moogles prefer seclusion, that trait could be shared amongst their weaker-magicked Mog cousins from the East, whom also typically prefer to stay out of the affairs of the world... until Dalamud affects their livelihood of course.

Bam! You see how that works? Perfection.
