    I think the latest Hildibrand quest gives a big hint on possible Dark knight lore.

    Ul dahs sister nation of Si dil could be where Dark knights originated.
    This would make sense if you think of could it this way since Ul dah had an order paladins who protects the sultana then Si dil keep in mind I'm trying to spell this the best I can would have a similar order and we now that they were more interested in knowledge so magic and we know that Dark knight will be mainly a dark magic tank.

    When you get down to it it make sense that since both nations wer at war with each other it make sense that Paladins and Dark knights wer in conflict with each other.

    the only down side to your idea is, that the city of sil'dah was destroyed, and most likely as were its arms and etc, granted there may be other survivors but the knowledge of the dark knight may be lost if it was sil;dahn, but still we will have to find out in heavenward
