Conflicted to move to irl friend's server and to stay in current.

    Hi everyone, ^^

Please forgive my wall of text...
    :/

Recently my irl friend moved to Tonberry because we're both in a JP server. Now usually, I look into detail of where the servers are (if the game has multiple servers available) and tell us to go here/there but he had started a month or 2 before I began playing... so naturally the dummy picks at random).
    -.-

I had learnt Hiragana in primary and then self taught Katakana and saved phrases to get by for everything (mostly end raid stuffs) so I get by most of the time. Even though he loves Japanese anime and understands some things I read out to him, he didn't want to learn but wanted to raid (he couldn't/lazy to clear T5).
    -.-

Eventually I helped him clear T12 but he moved anyway and incites that Tonberry is full of English speaking players...

And here's my dilemma: I've met kind and wonderful people on my server and it saddens me to think to move and leave a great community behind. My friend and I always play together and an English server would help build a static but this leaves me conflicted...
    :/

So what would you guys do? Have you ever been in this position or know of a person who has?

(Sorry I had to double post because mobile version doesn't allow Edit)

I guess you need to decide which one you prefer more: The company of this friend of yours or the server. Maybe you could convince him to transfer back to Tonberry? To be honest, I am suprised. Why would your friend join a server with alot of Japanese players, if he does not understand the language so well?

I think the root of this issue, is in the reason why he left, because leaving only, because a server is full of English players, but said player is not able to understand the Japanese language so well.. is odd.

Personaly, I would stay at your current server. He left the server without talking to you, which to me means, he does not care if he playes with you or not. I know he is your friend, but ask yourself, how much is your friendship worth to him? Because his actions clearly shows, that he is oke without you.

Hm... I suggest staying where you're happiest. You could make an alt on Tonberry to check things out. Before any server move, I strongly suggest this.

I actually had the same thought. :/

btw, Tonberry is the unoffical AUS/SEA server and thus is at least half EN speaking. ^^

Honestly I wouldn't do it. I've seen too many people left alone in the game when their IRL friends get bored of XIV... So, I'd say don't leave your friends.

I visited Tonberry for a while, it does indeed have many English speaking players. I didn't stay since it reminded me way to much of a legacy server (packed, quite a bit of attitude/trolls from some, etc) but you won't have a hard time with any language barriers. My suggestion with your friend though is to wait a bit... I moved to Hyperion cause I found a old FFXI friend there, and not a couple months later he just stopped playing (no signs, just gone lol). So I've been going to another server now since Hyperion wasn't really to my liking with how packed it was, which essentially wasted the move I did to Hyperion. If there is any chance you'd feel the same way if your friend stopped playing, I'd reconsider.

Depends which company you enjoy playing with.
You paid your own subscription and you can choose your own servers

You should just stay on your current server especially if you've made good friends there already. I was in the same situation with my irl friend that chose Sargatanas, I moved there for a little bit for them but missed my old server too much so I transferred back. Now that friend isn't even playing anymore so yeah....

Id say stay and maybe create an alt on your friends server to still play together (in case you have the time for it tho).

I made a "kinda similiar" decision lately and left a progressive raidgroup after T9 clear to raid with my friends (well now also cleared with em T9 ^-^) to go blind into Final Coils (we avoid as far as possible any kind of spoiler and dont watch guides beforehand). And yes it made me sa because first I feel friend to my other raidlead that I left and second I am definitely more hardcore looking at raiding (even said no to a couple of hardcore progressive raidgroups for 3.0 and some that asked earlier).

In general you must make up your mind what makes you longer time happy.
In my case it is friends + joy of blind running > progression

Wish you the best which decision you may make
