Game Card Problem

So my friend bought me a 60 day card as a gift and I wanna add it to my subscription but I can't and is asking me to upgrade to standard and fork over $15. Is there a way pass this problem or do I really have to pay money just to use this game card? Another question is that I'm on my last day of my subscription, is it possible if I wait until my main subscription to finish up and then try to add the card or will it still not work? I don't want this gift to become useless...

You're using a entry level account I guess?

There was a recommendation to cancel your subscription and play out the remaining days. (you can play until the end of the current paid period) When the sub expires, go enter the game card info and you should be good.

It's not letting me cancel and add the card so I'ma just wait until my last day finishes.

Yeah, you have to "Cancel" and let the time run out; don't pay the account again... then reactivate with the time card. That's what they were saying in the other thread. I've never tried this method myself, just what I had read from other people.
