Hunts and the original Odin/Behemoth reminds me of the classical "named mob" or "field/world boss" implementation. The only difference is, in those classical implementations players fight to tag the target, in FFXIV players fight to deal the most contribution.

Sadly, in the classical implementation there is a strict and guaranteed criteria for reward: you tag it, down it, you take everything. But in FFXIV, your contribution is relative to how well geared your opponents (other players) are.

For that reason, I feel that Hunts are simply an extension of the end-game raiding content. It's like a little platform attached to the roller coaster, if we take the theme park paradigm that Yoshi-P talks about; it is by no means one ride of its own.

well trouble is the systeme (like i have said) is not adapted at the population of most server, add good reward and it become simply a massive zerg fest that give exellent reward for... no risk, no skil... just a good old zerg against 1 monster.

since the hunt was added it was soo many time pointed as failing soo bad and still they try to salvage it without take care of the main trouble. the fact that you have soo many people per server that want to do hunt. in prime time you have not enough monster for the whole server. it lead to drama, toxic community if not worst. then why not try to change entierly the system? because since ARR they refuse to admit when what they add are a failure. it was one of the thing i did like with the V1 they had the courage to admit that the game was a failure. it's not as bad, but clearly a few system added need to be changed totally for be more adapted to the game and the community. (hunt is one of this system)

No everyone has a static to be able to get access to twine and coat so I'm pleased with that decision. I see nothing wrong with it. The "problem" that A marks as well as S marks need hp buff that's all.

Think of the consequences before you post something like this.
Because they couldn't just decrease the health again after the mobs are inconsequential? Yeah they haven't nerfed content or anything before, right?

Like someone above said, the A ranks lasting 20~ seconds at the most is stupid as hell. The hunt is a great idea implemented very poorly.

The problem with the system is there is no limit on the rewards. Put caps on it and that will fix things. or remove the Twine and such as rewards altogether. These are the reasons players abuse this system. Like others said, when the rewards were casual it was "working as intended".

Even with LDON the original Everquest moved away from this type of content design. Every MMO since then, including the big WoW has done instanced content for most of the highest rewards. Outside of a novelty boss here and there running around the open world, there's a reason this stayed in the dark ages. It leads me to question why SE is using content practices from 15 years ago that the MMO industry used when everyone was a novice designer. I was enjoying the game so much until 2.5 too, it just seems so crazy out of the blue they would do this. Not only that, but it's even worse, these hunts aren't bosses, they are zerg pinatas. I know I've said it before, but hunts are the worst designed reward mechanism content I've seen in an MMO, and their stalwart refusal to offer any sort of alternative to meaningful content in getting these uncapped 130s is just salt in the wounds.

As soon as casual content is involved with endgame tier loot, it becomes a massive shit storm of name and shame and swearing.
When those stuff were locked behind coil, ppl would at least stfu in mor when they afk with their new shiny upgraded gear etc.

I was happily doing hunts to get seals for Alexandrite last weekend. It was great. Everyone was polite. Now I won't even try it because just the shouts in a zone if an A rank is up is far too annoying - I shudder to think what an S rank is like. I was excited at first when I saw how they increased the number of seals/tomes you get as a reward. But then I saw that the stuff for upgrade materials were added. And we have the old sucky hunt atmosphere all over again. I want my friendly hunting weekend back. Guess I'll be getting my alexandrite from soldiery/maps.

Honestly, the simplest solution is just to increase the health pools.

It's been said a bunch of times and with the average item level increase, it only makes sense.
