I wonder, can you do this with the Rauni and Mammon Supras as well? Would save a lot of headache to hit that gathering minimum.

I agree it's odd that there does seem to be a discrepancy between DoW/DoM and DoL's in terms of difficulty in attaining the rare reward status for a retainer. However I'd rather see the DoW/DoM's put to the same level of difficulty as the gatherer's. I would enjoy the challenge of that, and it would really make you appreciate when you hit that rare item status, rather than just slapping some easily attainable i90 gear onto a retainer and calling it a day.

No. The Ironworks Rod is special because it is an achievement reward item from catching 106 different species of Big Fish. Turn-ins are never available at the Calamity Salvager, just quest and achievement rewards.

On the "plus" side, you'll collect more than 99 extra BTN/MIN turn-in tokens while going for your Luscious tool, so it's just 3 MCDs and 10 FC3s from there to get a backup Supra. 1.2m (the current price of that on my server) is a lot, but it's still a great option if you're too lazy to fully meld gear and have the cash.

I went through this myself yesterday. It is pretty stupid (in my opinion)...

If you have a Botanist retainer with fully melded Botanist Gear, the Forager's mainhand, and Dodore jewelry/belt/etc; and everything is MAX melded for Gathering... You get exactly 419 Gathering.

419! Are you kidding me, SE? You are forcing me to put melded forager's gear (at least one piece) or a Supra on my RETAINER just to get the XVI Ventures? Nuts to that!

Clue: Retainers only use the gathering stat. iL 70 accessories can take GGM III for an extra 5 gathering over iL 55 gathering accessories.

Was anyone lucky with the new dyes? Or do you need to get your retainers ilvl100/ 420 gathering gear first?

edit: Just got 2 from my hunter retainer ilvl 90 still.
