The GM teams need to log in the game as actual players, just like we do. That way they would get the same multi RMT spam tells we do. They might also get out to those locations where the bots port in & out of duties... or see the plasmoid spirit binding bots.

The GM team DOES log in like regular players do... That's one of the nice things about this game - Yoshida actually plays it. But, he doesn't play on NA servers. I doubt any of the dev team does (though most of the localization and NA community teams almost certainly do). I have no idea what the spam situation is on the JP servers.

    Kill RMT

Ok take a lesson from CCP Games. Introduce a legal way to buy Gil....... RMTs die out practically overnight.

The method is to allow players to buy a tradeable item from Square. Said item is sellable and only obtainable by purchase. The value of the item is determined by the players and therefore controlled.

With a safe, legal way to buy gil I see no reason why spam bots would be profitable any longer.

The solution is for SE to include a lot of customized /tell filters and filters on friend requests like not allowing someone below certain levels to friend / tell you and not allowing people who aren't on your friends list to /tell you or in your fc to /tell you or /friend you.

The list goes on really. There's so many ideas for customization that can make it so we only get the /tells we actually give a damn about then these gil sellers can simply bugger off.

How about letting us turn off friend requests, tells, invites, etc individually so using /busy makes it difficult for everyone?

Hell, give us the ability to disable tells from non-friends or linkshell members or something. Disable friend requests so RMT dont get smart either.

If you disable Friend requests from people who don't arrange it with you in advance through tells so that you can open it up for them, while also disabling tells from people who aren't already on your Friends list, you've just made it impossible for anyone to Friend anyone else or talk to anyone else. They could implement such rules in one direction or the other, but not both.

At any rate, when there's far more effective ways of dealing with the issue without interfering nearly so much with normal, desirable interaction, I'm against them blocking the conversations we want happening. SE could stop all the RMT spam if they decided to do so. So far, they just haven't chosen to.

The spam situation on JP servers (tonberry at least) seems to be pretty much non existent. Probably because there isn't much of a market on jp servers i guess lol

I guess the Japanese people play games for the sake of playing whereas the NA servers would rather pay to reach the top as fast as possible so they can go full epeen on everyone.

But in all seriousness, why are people paying monthly for a game they don't really want to play? Earning money and defeating your own content is literally 90% of the game... unless what I said really IS the case and it's a matter of epeen. Then I'm just sad.

From what I've heard, RMT itself is big in Japan as well as here, it's just advertised through third-party sites rather than in-game. At least ad space on fan sites is less disruptive than in game /tell spam. But I think that difference is why SE doesn't take the spam seriously. Of course they have GM teams on this side of the world that see the spam we get, but the devs actually making decisions about how to handle it don't see any /tell spam issues because they're playing on JP servers. They only see the issues RMT causes to the in-game economy, so that's the only part they care about fixing. (And that's the part that's hard to impossible to fix. The spam would be the easy part to get rid of if they'd bother to do so.)
