    Why I Hate Daily Quest

    Daily quest were designed to allow players to make some progress in the game without spending too much time. In addition, it provides an incentive to constantly log in every day to visit the game, which promotes a habit of playing consistently.

    On the flip side, if you miss a daily quest, it feels like you've wasted an opportunity to make some easy progression in the game. Missing out on multiple dailies, makes me not want to play the game at all.

    Now, when I say "dailies" I don't mean dailies with your daily leve allowances. Those are reasonable. If you happen to not want to play for a week or so, you can always splurge on the weekend with your extra allowances. But none of the other "dailies" runs on an allowance system.

    Can we have different allowances on different dailies?

    If anyone recalls, the first Christmas event, Starlight Celebration, in 1.0 also ran on an daily allowance system... with those bells. This meant, if you were paying for the game at the time of the event, and couldn't have gone to do the daily for it, it would save up your credit to a certain amount before it caps out. This however was never implemented into ARR, all our daily special events, requires you to do it on the day of or you miss out. E.G. the previous Starlight Celebration (2014).

    Daily Quest are repeatable quest which can only be completed once every 24 hour cycle, which the cycle resets every day at 10am EST (11am EDT).
    It is possible to do some of the dailies back to back, such as the beastmen crafting dailies. If you held onto yesterday's credit for them, you could do them the next day and still grab the new dailies for it.

    However, for other dailies, like Morbid Motivation, you can not do this. Completion of Morbid Motivation would count for that day's daily. So if you were holding onto that quest from yesterday, and completed it the next day, you can not grab another one yet until the next 24 hour cycle.
    Daily is a great way to progress in the game with minimal effort.
    • Short completion time*
    • Extra rewards
    • Some are also solo-able
    Let's say you want alexandrites

    You might do Morbid Motivation which gives you 1 Mysterious Map. It turns into 1 Alexandrite. This will take you roughly 30 to 40 minutes to complete the dungeon, and less than 5 minutes to complete the map.

    Hunts, you can gather up to 200 allied seals, which is full credit kills of 5 A ranks. Depending on the time of day and which windows are open, this might take between 1 to 2 hours. The hunts also drops soldiery* tomes (or the uncapped tome of the current patch...) which you would buy Mysterious Maps with, 400 soldiery tomes for 1 map.

    You can grind for soldiery tomes by speed running dungeons to buy your map as well. Assuming each run will take less than 30 minutes, it might take about 2 hours to get enough tomes for 1 map.

    And if you're crazy enough to play with the RNG on FATEs for alexandrites... well you might get one between 1 to 4 hours.

    Tiny text hard to read. ^^;

    I'm squarely in the camp of "you don't HAVE to do dailies". You don't HAVE to do anything in this game; just enjoy yourself and do what seems fun at the time. Playing a game, by it's nature, is wasting time. Don't make it feel like a job (this is the player's doing, not SE's. It's a matter of self-control. ^^ )

    But, yeah it's true, most of the time it doesn't matter since you can make up for missed daily by putting in extra hours later. It's a sort of time vs effort thing.

    However, I did get screwed over for this year's Starlight Celebration because I completely forgot it was a daily.

    I've re-subbed a day before the event was ending. The daily reset didn't kick in yet since it was early in the morning. If I had jumped onto doing the daily season event right away, I would have gotten all the event items. However, I was too concerned with having fun and starting on my supra that I forgot about it. Now I have to cough up $5 USD or more next year to buy the items.

    I mean don't see it this way. It's not 'missed', you'll get to it eventually. Don't sweat it!

    Okay, the limited-time events are different. ^^; Missing those IS the difference between ever getting said item/achievement or not. I dragged 6 characters through that thing; I definitely felt the time crunch. xD

    I dislike daily quests because designing a game around them makes it an insufferable and obvious grind. Login, complete X same quests, logout... do over and over.

    Heck, even WoW has finally killed them off.

    The amount of dallies is a bit overwhelming now, although admittedly helps me divide my time.

    I do have to remind myself I don't have to do them though. Like with the allied seal dallies, doubling the amount of seals for the FATEs still isn't gonna make me sit in an area and wait an hour or so for it to pop. It's all about how you value your time, etc.

    Meanwhile the Ixal dallies I can do in less than an hour and feel like I'm either earning easy money or beneficial items for crafting/gathering armor and tools.

    The dailies are there to provide extra stuff to do. It's an MMO, go hang out with your friends! Go dance on the beach! Jump on walls in MD! Run Coil naked! Have a crafting or gathering party! Play hide and seek! Plan an event! Get a group of lalas to hang out in MD and spam /laugh!

    Ok... skip that last one.

    There's so much you can do even in a "theme park" game. It just takes a little effort on the players' part to think outside the box and not to fall into the trap of "there's ONLY dailies and I HAVE to do them daily." ><;

    Nice, it sounds amazing now.

    I haven't had the chance to try yet for the new 2.5 drop rates, since I don't have a weapon that qualifies for alexandrite drops. I am assuming you need to have an Animus weapon equipped to be qualified, similar to the atma drops.

    I found I was much happier when I realized I don't have to do anything daily, and that if I missed a day, it was my choice and I wasn't obligated to log on every day. This is FF14, not Animal Crossing.
