Thread: FFXIV and voice chat why I hate it and why SE must put one on

So was filling a pug T10 the other day when some one asked my most hated thing......TS info? I hate voice chat yes it helps maybe half the time but no it's not needed. I told them I don't have a server I'm not paying to buy rent or how ever it works better things to spend my money on not go a spend it on something I hate i all ready spent money on the TS and Mumble apps not spending more on it.

So party at last fills AGAIN some one asked TS info told them unless they got a server we not using it then they left whole party disbanded.

Here's how this should work people if you really need voice that bad then get your own server and share the others don't wana spend money on it so get it and share if you need so bad other wise go in to the raid just listen to the sound effects.

SE please consider something for voice chat in at lest end game raids this reliance on out side programs can limit people's game play.

100% agree.

Edit: even more so when you have PC players playing with PS4 and PS3 players.

It can really segregate the community when it comes to getting into the end game content between those who can and cannot use 3rd party programs whether it be on a PC or smartphone.

lawls aside. I have to agree with this. Voice chat is a common and standard feature in countless games especially MMORPGs. I don't see why this shouldn't happen.

LOL I have trouble a lot of the times finding the right words as to why I edit my posts a lot in the first 5 minutes.

Use the search function, this have been discussed, and the devs gave us an answer, in short, no, not now, not ever.

Thing is they want to keep their players I e customers happy so they may re consider this if enough want this and make a lot of noise about it even War craft has some kind of voice chat system.

and it's really a community problem :3 most JP groups dont use voice chats and have like the most sophisticated macros - timers telling when the next boss move occurs - since most of the fight scripts are time based.

Unfortunately, this isn't something that is strictly FFXIV. When VOIP released, it was at first unpopular for the opinion that you have. Why should I buy a server? Why should I have to join? Being someone who played games before VOIP and learned fights through repetition and text instructions, it is interesting to see how much things have changed. When it finally caught on, it was like wildfire. WoW was the first (MMORPGs strictly speaking) that truly made it "necessary," though at first the players used text based instructions still.

I remember my first time. I was skeptical, lost, a bit nervous, and I wasn't sure what to say or how to respond. But it was revolutionary! Today, it is hard to imagine waltzing onto the battleground with someone typing out all of the instructions. We used to make macros that would detail phase changes, but that was so restricting in proper communication between team players.

Now, I'll stop giving everyone nostalgia and address your demands. They aren't possible. "Ardent, that.. was kinda a quick no." Yes, yes it was. I watched them implement it in EQ, EQ2, and WoW. It was AWFUL. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that they didn't have the proper amount of server resources to handle the VOIP. I'm not a very technical-savvy chica, so don't count on me for that explanation. However, it didn't take long for them to pull the programs due to how awful they were. Take a look at SE and how often they're running into resource issues. They can't add more instances, they can't add more item load to those instances, they can't increase server size. I'm sure there are more.

It is just extremely unlikely that they'll ever have enough resources to manage a functional, clear, and open voice program in the game. And that is without bringing into the sudden influx of player complaints due to behavior.

Oh, going from this direction there are actually many avenues! Open server groups are very popular, definitely on Mumble. I've been in a couple groups that used them and there weren't any issues with folks barging in during raids/groups. It was pretty chill, actually. Thanks for bringing it up!
