level 30 and can't post in forums

Firstly, why is there even a level limit to begin with? I could understand limiting forum activity for trial account users, but if you've paid for the game license, that should entitle you to a little basic freedom of speech.

Secondly, I've only been able to find 1 bit of info suggesting that if I'm level 30 that I should be able to make a few posts per day, yet this new player section seems to be the only place that I can create a new thread. I have made sure to set my lvl 30 char as my main char in the profile and that didn't help.

A forum cap on level limit is a pretty crumby way to treat new players to the game and make them feel less valuable than the rest of the community. Bad job SE.

Keep in mind sometimes the forums/lodestone take a while to update levels. I once replied to a thread where a lvl28 person was still "level 14" at the time of his posting, then it updated just after. Also keep in mind the character/class whose level you wish to use should be equipped in Edit Settings-> Edit Character. I believe Ninja is still not available.

Given the nature of this game, I think we are lucky you don't have to do a 3 hour long multi-fetch quest to unlock forum posting "mechanics."

I could understand limiting forum activity for trial account users, but if you've paid for the game license, that should entitle you to a little basic freedom of speech.
As much as I agree that it is annoying and frustrating, please keep in mind it has nothing to do with "freedom of speech." That term is only about governments shutting people up, freedom of speech has nothing to do with private entities limiting their private communication channels.

But yea, you still get a little basic freedom to post in "Technical Support," "Bug Reports," "New Player Help" and "Community Events" boards.

As much as I hate this system, I kind of can see the point of it. Too many people tend to engage on meaningless vitriol because posting is free and all they waste is their time. Setting a limit actually seems to make people hold back a bit, either because they rather not waste their post count on meaningless flame fests, or because they simply ran out of posts in one. Only thing I would change is increase how many posts lower level players can write.

I can see some logic in setting limits on how many posts people can make, but I don't see the logic in tying that to character level. Most of the drivel and vitriol both come from bored long-term players, not new players.

And it's frustrating how often we see new players post here and get redirected, asked to post on the more relevant forum instead, when those of us familiar with the forums know they can't, because of the stupid posting restrictions. This seems to come up especially often when new players are looking for FCs. They always seem to get told to post in their server's forum, (which of course would be the appropriate place, if only it were available to the people who most need it).

It has to due with the fact that gold sellers will be able to spam their stuff on the forums. RMTs do not generally use their lvl 50 characters or accounts to spam in game or on forums as they are trying to keep a low profile on these accounts. In the TOS, if I'm not mistaken, you can actually be banned in game as well based on the severity of your forum violation. By not allowing low levels to post they prevent spam or advertising accounts from filling up the forums as seen in other MMOs.

Although they can not post, they can still access material, such as guides and tutorials or things they may be interested in, posted by other players. A lot of times, these questions can be answered in such guides or posts or be found there.

They can scout their server forums as most actively recruiting FC's will post their recruitment needs. You also do not need to reply to most of these recruitment threads directly, as many of these threads tell you exactly who to PM for more information or invitation.

In the end, if the new player still cannot find the answer to his or her question, that is what the new player forums is for. Just ask and the community usually tries their best to help.
