I propose to you to contemplate the following: we are already protected by someone.

But most of us were under the impression that it was the power of light actually making us immune to it. AKA, basically tempered by the Mothercrystal vs. evil Primal. Although the Echo being our resistence makes sense, too.

Also, I think Midgardsomr following us around to watch us instead will be a HUGE plot point. Minfillia mentions his job is, legendarily, to "guard the lake all magic flows," but is that exactly it or just Min's best theory?

Even if Miggy didn't do what he did, I figured that Hydaelyn would lose her power entirely eventually. We've basically been grossly abusing her power this entire time to slay Primals and other "impossible" foes, and the Ascians directly mentioned that "each victory came at great cost to her". It could have been possible for us to literally reduce her power to zero, which might outright kill her.

Miggy stopped us from continuing to sap her power further. It may be possible that he's actually saved her, and perhaps even taken her place as a source of being chosen via his ever watchful eye.

Besides, we kind of proved that we don't need the Blessing of Light to kick an Ascian's bum

Here is my take on the situation as it stands thus far. I do not believe Midgardsormr, out of blind rage, severed or bound our link to Hydaelyn. There had to be a more outstanding reason as he said he remembered the covenant. Also it is doubtful he'd be following us around if he wasn't watching over us in some manner. Possibly Hydaelyn is too weak to protect us anymore? Or it may be that we needed the blessing out of the way in order to deal with the Ascians as a whole, as it prevented some from even taking form in Eorzea at all. I do not think we have lost the echo. The reasoning behind this is that the echo not only allows us to see memories and past events but allows communication with other beings outside of our realm of understanding (see Midgardsormr and Ascians). Notice how after Midgardsormr took, sealed, etc the Blessing we were still able to understand him? Or for that matter the Ascian. Had we lost the echo we'd have been like Moenyna (if I spelled that properly. I have trouble with Roe names lol) and unable to make sense of what the guy was saying.

Keep in mind that the Holy Sea of Ishgard is under Ascian control. Perhaps Miggy is calling the dragons to fight Ishgard because of this? We could be looking at a three way war of Ishgard with Dragons Vs. Asican influenced templars Vs. a resistance movement trying to do the right thing probably led by our overly friendly friend at House Fortempts (forgive misspellings)

To echo (heh) what other's said, I think Midgy took over watching over us since Hydaelyn has grown so weak. I think we still have the Echo, and what got stripped was Hydaelyn's direct protection, which really wasn't doing much good, seeing she's so weak now, that she can't even talk to us anymore.

Thing is, while Hydaelyn is a kind and doting mother, Midgy is the crotchety grandpa that expects us to get things done on our own, though he might deign to offer some advice from time to time. Whether or not he'll actually step up if we get into a situation that is way over our abilities and would -absolutely- require the powers of an elder power like him to deal with remains to be seen.

Heh, having a covenant with a dragon, and with the King of the Wyrms, at that, is going to be interesting heading into the expansion. Certainly will be awkward if any of the Ishgardians find out.
