All pros and cons aside, why do people refuse to acknowledge the similarities between XI and XIV?

I'm just tired of seeing the same spam in every thread when ppl mention FFXI. Why can't ppl be objective? What is SO wrong with mentioning XI...It was a GOOD GAME. Please for the love of God, just admit it, and let's try to find some middle-ground.

And, also, I actually thought ppl would get a kick out of the reference even if they "were" the donkey lol I know I would have. I do apologize if it came off as an "argument" provoker. I want a serious answer, though, please. Someone explain to me why former XI players aren't allowed to mention how good this game could be if it drew on SOME aspects of XI. Please...

because there are not many similarities.
1. you couldn't really solo well in ffxi. You can solo amazingly well in ffxiv
2. while both games have 3 nations. FFXI's nations were crazy psycho magic users, stuck up royalty, and technology based industrialists with a god-controlled center-city. FFXIV's nations are pirates, mercantilists, and forest protectors, with a religious-fanatic center city.
3. FFXI had a class-specifc (+sub job) battle system and FFXIV has a cross-class battle system.
4. FFXI was story-heavy and had detailed quests, FFXIV is grind-heavy with simplistic 'run here kill run back' quests
5. FFXI was open-world based with an emphasis of competition, FFXIV is instance based with practically 0 competitive activitiees

I could keep going..... very different games. Doesn't mean they will stay different. But very different at the moment.

It does have a lot in common. I loved FFXI and that's the reason I wanted to start playing FFXIV. I'm one of the guys who actually wishes that it was more like FFXI. Square Enix was due for another MMORPG, since FFXI needed an upgrade on graphics and a fresh new world. It doesn't mean that the game has to be identical systematically. It doesn't have to have subjobs (although subjobs have been cool since FFV), it doesn't need BCNMs (but it could make a similar feature, those were always fun), etc. I really think this game needs to use FF's traditional job system, that would really add that FF punch back into the game. And you can't say that it would be ripping off of FFXI, because FFXI ripped its initial job selection straight from the original FF.

In short, it should borrow from most of the ideas that made FFXI successful, while being aware of what made the game boring or annoying. They don't have to be identically implemented, but at least something similar, so us FFXI fans can feel something nostalgic about this game, while still being able to play a NEW, more upgraded online FF game with nice graphics and fresh feel.

HAHAHA I totally get what you are saying and that clip is a classic example of how some ppl can be. Hilarious.

But really you do have to admit there are simularities but there are in all final fantasy titles. Its what makes final fantasy, final fantasy. If you want to look real close at all the little parts, no there are not alot of things identical but if you look at the overall, then yes there are. So both groups are kindda right and kindda wrong.

Regardless of whether or not ffxiv and ffxi have simularities or not, ffxi was a fantastic game (before they introduced abyssea and magians anyway) and ffxiv, although starting off slow, is becoming a fantastic play. I have pretty much abandoned ffxi for ffxiv at this point so I hope they keep up the good work, and if they want to incorperate elements of ffxi (pre-aby) or ffv or ffiii that worked, go ahead. It will just make it feel more like final fantasy.

Thank YOU, Micah. Seriously, is it really going to kill ya'll to just concede in this one little area? I'm not saying FFXIV should be a freakin clone of FFXI, but why are ya'll all so opposed to taking good things from XI and putting it on XIV. Every time someone brings up one thing GOOD about XI, 347058235 ppl bring up 100 different BAD things about XI, as if the person was trying to say they, LITERALLY, want a clone of XI. I don't think ANYBODY from XI wants a clone. In fact, I would almost go as far as to say: Even the ppl still PLAYING XI hate that game lol There is SO much wrong with it, I couldn't cover it all in any 10 threads. So, the next time you all see someone mention ONE good thing about XI...Here's some advice: "don't be the donkey."
