[QUOTE=Chihaya;2723147]The devs have commented about this - http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...l=1#post544090

That reply was such a cop out. Im all for in game voice chat in a limited format. A party chat and maybe a free company chat. All the stuff about harassment is just a way for them to be lazy and push you off to another client instead of making their own game the best it could be. If you worried about troll in chat do what you do what troll type blacklist them. Wow had bad voice chat but wow is an old title DCUO had an excellent voice chat setup and yes there were a few troll but I had met some really cool people that I now call friend there.

Unfortunately, this isn't something that is strictly FFXIV. When VOIP released, it was at first unpopular for the opinion that you have. Why should I buy a server? Why should I have to join? Being someone who played games before VOIP and learned fights through repetition and text instructions, it is interesting to see how much things have changed. When it finally caught on, it was like wildfire. WoW was the first (MMORPGs strictly speaking) that truly made it "necessary," though at first the players used text based instructions still.

I remember my first time. I was skeptical, lost, a bit nervous, and I wasn't sure what to say or how to respond. But it was revolutionary! Today, it is hard to imagine waltzing onto the battleground with someone typing out all of the instructions. We used to make macros that would detail phase changes, but that was so restricting in proper communication between team players.

Now, I'll stop giving everyone nostalgia and address your demands. They aren't possible. "Ardent, that.. was kinda a quick no." Yes, yes it was. I watched them implement it in EQ, EQ2, and WoW. It was AWFUL. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that they didn't have the proper amount of server resources to handle the VOIP. I'm not a very technical-savvy chica, so don't count on me for that explanation. However, it didn't take long for them to pull the programs due to how awful they were. Take a look at SE and how often they're running into resource issues. They can't add more instances, they can't add more item load to those instances, they can't increase server size. I'm sure there are more.

It is just extremely unlikely that they'll ever have enough resources to manage a functional, clear, and open voice program in the game. And that is without bringing into the sudden influx of player complaints due to behavior.

Oh, going from this direction there are actually many avenues! Open server groups are very popular, definitely on Mumble. I've been in a couple groups that used them and there weren't any issues with folks barging in during raids/groups. It was pretty chill, actually. Thanks for bringing it up!

You realize there are public servers for vent, right?

There's no reason to not use voice chat, communication is never a bad thing. Don't get why people are anti-social in an MMO.

Because not EVERYONE actually NEEDS to be told what to do every 10 seconds in a fight to do their job properly. Players such as myself under perform with voice chatting due to it being a distraction greatly inhibiting our ability to focus on the fight. I need to be looking at myself, my skills, bosses, boss mechanics, other players, player debuffs, listening to sound queues. Otherwise I fall into a slump where I'm unable to pay attention at all.

I understand there are many players who might perform better with the constant communication feedback of VOIP and I respect your play styles, I really do. I'm just getting frustrated that MY playstyles are frequently not respected. Can't join this group or that group cuz VOIP REQUIRED and I know I'll just play like absolute garbage if I was in a VOIP. I also wonder how many other people have difficulties playing with people talking to them in real life / VOIP and are not even aware they have this issue... My husband actually found out he plays better when he mutes people in the voice chat. Surely there can be some middle ground where the people who need voice queues can be there and the people who can pay attention on their own can be outside the VOIP.

It's basically for the same reason why we can't have a built-in dps meter: because there are people who will use it to the harm of the community. And those fears are substantiated.

Let me counter this with "if you want to raid so bad, why don't you get a server for something you know the majority of raiders use?" You must not like raiding. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean no one else will expect it. As a leader, you should consider this.

If I recall, WoW added a voice chat system that utterly failed. I would expect they'd need more servers to host personalized chats, and then people will complain about how it should be used for housing.

Ok first off I'm not in a static and I don't lead so in no way should I have to dish out money for it if some one is just go a ask the chat info and there is none then they need to just deal with it other wise get a server to share. Secondly I love raiding I like the challenge I love the story and I love getting high level gear.
Third I don't even talk in chat I don't like talking threw it so in no way am I put money in something I don't care for.
