Except for the had good ideas part, Surplus/no auto attack/physical levels/forced solo/guildleve focus all terrible, terrible ideas. The not finished part is spot on though, and that is what kept me playing definitely not Tanaka's initial vision the more I heard of that the more I started wishing I could go back to the old XI. Now I have many of my favorite things from XI with more of them to come, and hopefully plenty of extra new stuff too.

-1 Thank god no one listens to you.

surplus - that one was horrible

physical levels - that would have been ok if it wasn't the only deciding factor on points given.

no auto attack - that's actually one of the reasons i got the game and stayed so long

forced solo - ???? when? i was in grind parties my first day in game and was never forced to solo.

guildleve - needed work and more content to go with it, but anything gets boring when it is the ONLY thing to do.

edit: i never said the implementation was good nor did i say they were complete and ready for release, but the foundation was sound. with a few tweaks here and there the system would have been massively more successful than what we have right at one year later.

Seriously doubt it, 1.18 which you hate so much brought ten times more people back to the game than anything they have done since launch day. Obviously not everyone agrees that the changes Yoshi is doing are bad.

Forced solo was referring to Tanaka's vision of a game where you never had to group for any content, and that solo casual content would be the focus of this game. He implied more and more as time went on that if people wanted "hardcore" or "group" content they'd be better off in XI. Yoshi however allows for both in the same game and has done away with Tanaka's "casual only" paradise.

    Yoshi gives us:

    Xp chains
    Party areas
    No surplus
    Real/effective group roles with jobs
Content that is difficult in groups rather than just the total zerg fest casual stuff Tanaka had.

I really like Tanaka, and I like to think too that the things he envisioned would have turned out great, but a lot of his ideas were complete poison.

    Is that an actual figure?

This game going from "casual paradise" to "raptor grind" has already scared off two of my IRL friends who simply don't have the patience to run around Corethas for hours on end (although I know there are other methods of SPing currently) - these are the same people who I couldn't get into XI for the exact same reason. This is made worse by the fact that every class needs at least one other class leveled to be worth a damn. You can call my friends on "not being hardcore enough", but the simple fact of the matter is that these days you make casual games in this industry or you make no money. There was room in this game for a fun and dynamic ranking up process with a challenging endgame, and there still is hopefully.

The changes don't bother me personally at all, but I think that if Tanaka's original game had been given a chance to be developed properly, it would have turned out right and been a great game in it's own right. SE's marketing team must have jumped the gun and forgot that Final Fantasy titles usually require a very long development cycle. What we're playing now feels like a beta - the actual "beta" we were playing felt like a friggin' tech demo. It was rushed out WAY too early if you ask me.

...What? How was there a sound foundation?

The very definition of a foundation was what was wrong with the game the most. The UI was terrible (it's still not great, but better) with SO many menus, the lag was TERRIBLE (again, still not great but on it's way), basic content was almost non-existent, the basic communication functions didn't work, the trading systems in place didn't work and regularly disconnected people. The alpha and beta were there to fix the foundation, and nothing was done.

Sorry, but the fact that 95% of the playerbase left within the first few months should tell you that it was on the road to ruin. Saying that it would be much better now is totally unfounded, and the only evidence we have suggests otherwise.

FFXI changed radically when Tanaka left (although he's back there now, but the team is taking LOTS of player feedback into account) for the better, and I'd say the same is true of FFXIV. The man has a lot of visions, but is totally unqualified and incapable of carrying them out, if this game is anything to go by.

Taking players into account not always good idea look at wow. Let's say there something that working how it should be and 100 people dislike this idea and dev read it and yoshi-p change it. This is where the forums system fails Dev is only taking into account around 50+ people on here the rest are playing or don't care. This is why i said many time i here forget the forums and do a month by month poll and you most do it before logging in. this would get a better overall view.

at the end it should be the dev who come up with the ideas and make this game how it should be played not how we think it should be played but anyways i hope ffxiv become better beta1-open was lame lol.
