I have heard that the HQ rate is higher during rainy weather.. but i get too many "escapes with your lure" or "line snaps" or "gets away" to know.. I now have before the emergency maintenance 17 NQ, 21 gets away, 6 lost lures..

Well of course! Clams are well known for their incredible evasion skills.

So far I've only had one bite on these things. Luckily I caught it and it was HQ to boot, but it seems like it has a pretty low bite rate....much lower than the 25% ffxivangler reports.

So far I've done three windows. In that time I've caught 11 NQs, 0 HQs, and I've lost 6 bites.

This should be fun. With how busy this semester of Uni is proving to be, I imagine I'll have Machinist long before I get the 30 clams for this rod.

I can say for certain that HQ clams can be caught with 375 gathering 297 perception and no food or GC buff, you can get this by max meld and halcyon supra.
I now have 33 NQ, countless gets away and more lost lures than i care to imagine.

It is however recommended to eat purely eat perception food to increase your chances of hooking HQ, some have reported very good rates for HQ at 325 perception (haddock dip).
At no stage with 375 gathering did i get "insuficient skill" message

EDIT: can confirm that their favorite weather is Rain.. in 1 session of rain i got 3 NQ 2 HQ and 3 missed..

I have 27 NQ, 4 HQ...and yes, they do escape like no tomorrow. I'm attempting them at 387 gathering 310 perception, ironworks + full forager melded but no food. Really, can't be bothered to eat food with these things having such small windows. Feels like a brutal waste of money.
