Was in an all new group to AK HM, it wasn't exactly a snoozefest for us. o.o;
We did wipe twice the whole run.. at the end. Somehow the walls closed in on us during the last pair of mobs and then we wiped on our first try at the boss. Second time though it went pretty smooth.
Haven't even done WP HM or KotL. In que... which is taking a while.. :/
I think that's the difficult part, you have people on both sides who make it difficult to make the runs too hard or too easy. Easy example would be the Bee's at the Demon Wall. They were removed, some say too hard others just ignored it..in the end the problem was that if you got into a party that couldn't ignore the bee's due to DPS, you had that one guy who just kept on hitting the wall because his gear was over the top and that's just how he was use to doing it. Or they would leave due to the gear of a new player.
I believe you're right, a middle ground needs to be found. I just think it's going to be a challenge.
That being said, don't get me wrong all these dungeons and past ones are beautiful and full of life. I really enjoy running these, even for fun.

This content is for the every man. Give it 1 week and you will be run threw without issue on all 3.
This content is purely a time sink.
If your party wipes on the first boss of WP, even blind, I don't think it's a good party to judge difficulty with.Mind you, I don't mind these light party duties getting to be a bit more of a challenge. But I just did Amdapor Keep Hard and then Wanderer's Palace Hard, and... well. AKHM was a snoozefest faceroll. Then there was WPHM where we wiped at least once on every boss. Both runs with full new parties.
The other two? Sure, while figuring them out I can understand it. But still.
I nearly jumped out of my chair and cheered when the Demon Wall part actually spawned two "bees". xD
So what if they're not of equal difficulty? I don't see why they have to be. Besides, they're the expert roulette now. We're all going to run them enough that they're going to become faceroll easy soon enough (if they aren't already - I'm stuck at work, so I haven't tried any of them yet).
The World of Darkness was definitely a step up in difficulty in comparison to Syrcus Tower. The bosses in there are relentless and have a crap ton of mechanics to boot. Surprisingly most of the mechanics in the WoD come from the Second Coil of Bahamut (the pre-nerf version) and adds new ones to the mix. Petrifaction, Fire-and-Ice dragons and Blighted Bouquet make a comeback! All in all, it's stressful since you need to be able to hold up on your own (indivudual awareness of the battle) as well as work together with everyone else (or else you may cause a wipe).
