Well technically it's on a boat moving through sand, and you rarely actually fight him. You just kind of pester him with cannonballs until he falls over. They haven't mentioned any of this because Airships aren't even in the game yet. First they're implementing it as transport yes but they haven't said there will never be large battles. Why announce content the game isn't even ready for?

Except they have said they are eventually going to do mounted combat for specific encounters.

They've stated that things like hamlet defense haven't been forgotten, they're just put on the back burner for now since fixing the game's core systems kind of comes first.

On the OP suggestion: I think involving crafters in battles is good ONLY if done properly. As was stated previously involving crafters in battles is what got us the sad excuse for "battles" in the main campaign. Honestly though most of the suggestions involve simply repairing. Why not have them build things, possibly when group crafting is implemented? Doesn't even have to be set stationary objects, they could allow crafters to build and place cannons or other traps mid-battle. These things would probably only be for that specific battle or those large battles just for the sake of balance though.

I think when GW2 come out, i will be with GW2 for at least 6 month before considering check back on FFXIV.

MMO could possibly just grow to another phrase again.

even the raids in Star Wars the Old Republic are looking good. They just released one at gamescom as an onstage demo and i was actually impressed.

SE really needs to get its essentials fixed really soon...im actually considering this or GW2, which i was almost going to pass up and im now thinking about actually playing. My FF and FFXI love can only hold me for so long tbh.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but Star Wars just looks like a clone to me. There is nothing that stands out in that game for me except the franchise.

    Just an opinion though.

Agreed, I've seen gameplay and it looks like every other older MMO in existence. Especially as someone who enjoys playing gunner classes, it looks pretty boring. GW2 and PSO2 are the only online games I'm remotely interested in aside from FFXIV.

Its all about PSO2. I was hella-addicted to PSO when it came out on the Gamecube. (i know it came out for Dreamcast first) I only got to Level 130 or so and then i couldn't afford it. lol

EDIT: forgot to mention, im only running an Athlon II x2 3.0ghz and i believe that a battle of that capacity would explode my computer to pieces.

It would be cool if SE developed something shiny and substantial over the next year so maybe they could attend the game events like e3 and GC next year to advertise XIV so that they could get new players.

I don't know if it's intentional but them not promoting XIV at all after the release gives an impression that they're still too ashamed of this product to advertise it.

So next year bring on the flashy game features after the core is done?

I dont' like large scale PvE, because only the elitest of the elite actually get to do it and win; No one has the muster to gather up 40-80 people for a massive battle anymore. Only the biggest no-lifers have time for that kind of thing.
