Server Bosses, Large scale PVE, Multiple Shell Fights and Dragons!

First I would like to say,
The recent dungeon fights were a WONDERFUL step in the right direction with boss fights that require multiple mechanics to overcome in order to kill the boss effectively.

With that said, I just watched a video I would like to share, (I hope this is not against the forum guidelines posting a video from another game):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0nCHPl_mEU&hd=1

Take a close look at the number of things going on, the SCALE of things going on, and how MANY people are involved in the action.

I feel strongly that FFXIV can accomplish this same awesome feat, and I would rather play that SAME fight out in FFXIV than moving to Guild Wars 2 to experience such epicness.

So, I wanted to share this with the community and devs to see how they feel about similar fights of such a magnitude and see about the possibility of adding "similar" content to FFXIV.

    Thanks for watching ^^

    Mog

    Edit:

In the video, I see an opportunity for crafters to get into the fight as well.

Crafters are gathered around the cannons, it is their job to repair and fire them.

Alchemist clicks the cannon, this puts them into the crafting window with the mats for "gunpowder" ready for synth.
The higher the Quality on the gunpowder synth, the more damage the cannonball does when it gets fired.

Woodworker clicks the cannon, this puts them into the crafting window with lumber to repair the wheels. Higher quality means longer before the cannon breaks.

Blacksmiths, same thing to the barrel.

Non grouped players kill the ribcages the dragon puts up to protect itself from the cannon fire,

Grouped players kill the exploding zombies.

Nobody tanks the dragon, he is scripted and only killed by the combined effort of the groups killing the zobies, the ribs coming down quickly, and the crafters repairing and firing the cannons. A GENUINE group effort of many players.

No loot comes from the boss itself to prevent claim whoring, everyone gets points for their company, or some such thing.

I agree with you, Doc. I still don't really understand what happened in FFXIV's development that stunted its growth, but all I know is that there's really nothing AAA about the game yet. We need battles like the one you posted!

...which I do not doubt will be coming in 1.19 and beyond! But sometimes I do wonder whether FFXIV will ever truly grow into a game worthy of the Final Fantasy name So far, the game is pretty unimaginative.

Yep, these are the kind of open world battles that SE should be pushing towards, which is why I wonder why there is so much resistances to the multi-claim system SE is developing. The only way you can have this kind of large-scale content is if its open to everyone on the server free of LS or party/grouping restrictions.

That Guild Wars clip looks like it builds on what Warhammer introduced with the Public Quest system, where everyone gets to contribute to the fight in their own way and is also rewarded based on their contributions. Would definitely be cool to have fights like that in XIV of that size and scope but honestly any hope of that seems so far away.....

Agreed, that's what this game really needs.

Man.. GW2 looks so freakin amazing...

I have my doubts that we'll ever see content like this in XIV unfortunately. I suspect we might never see dynamic scaling, which would be at the very core of content like this. Prove me wrong SE.

i'd agree, i been saying this since launch.... where did the game go wrong when ffxi ended off with very fun campaign battles that were dynamic, and full of party play and fun and ease to join and do. ...to this game ffxiv with none of that to start with. i was expecting what gw2 has in ffxiv from the get go, it made no sense to me when it launched like this without dynamic large scale full server join battles...... we ended ffxi with them, it only made sense we started off with them and 10times as good.

but yeah please for love of god se ...u need to be working behind the scenes on this right now, been saying this alot but dungeons aren't gonna cut it, not with games like gw2 coming out. this game has the potential to frigin rock with it's battle systems and lore and gameplay with this type of dynamic stuff. i don't know who told them that 8man groups are better then full on linkshell and server battles, i think they confusing easy join with make it smaller. this don't work.

like op said though the dungeon is right path but .../shakes head we defenetly need stuff like this. gw2 don't even charge a monthly fee. lol gl without it.

but only thing every mmo is missing that ffxi had and ffxiv might have is the story modes, cutsceens, the party play missions. this is what makes me judge other mmo's as less then ffxi, but it not look like even ffxiv is adding this this time, solo missions with cutsceens ain't the same. so this is another thing like to add ..again, that is very important to this games future in my opinion. ty ... been eyes on gw2 for long time i with out a doubt am getting it, u can't lose, no monthly works well with a monthly game ...it may take me away from ffxiv if it keeps sucking. sad to say.
