While I feel that I don't need these crazy over the top battles all the time (don't feel its necessary for the lore or feel of the game, like that epic war scene we have in the Prerendered cutscene a fight like that would need to be like the END of a expansion and would be worthly). I just feel it would be nice to know if these mechanics are even able to be made into this game with the way the servers and game engine is structured. One thing I don't want in this game is bosses without some interesting mechanics that are just secrets we will never figure out or dps burn. I like multistaged fights, kinda like in XIII and other FF series games.

Sadly just looking at their UI, while its not crazy, it subtly awesome and clean. Lots of important info that is pretty standard. I don't like clunky, I like options. And Full UI Scale helps a lot to make overly large icons to be smaller or to your preference.

Wish that GW2 wouldn't keep getting pushed back. But then again, look where we have been and are now with XIV lol. I'm telling you, if things are going as good as they should be with GW2, it's going to surpass WoW. It HAS to.

Here's a bit of a cleaner video of that boss. It's still off screen but not shaky.

Been to the gamescom myself yesterday and have been keeping an eye on GW2 for quite a while now as well. After playing it myself I have to say it simply is the game to try if FFXIV can't keep up. While I am really attached to FF and prefer XIV's more realistic and not as colourful graphics GW2 just has so much more to offer as you can see in the video. I still hope for XIV to succeed though and still think it might be an awesome game in like two years from now on. But yeah, GW2 with no monthly fees should be on every MMO fans' watchlist.

Nice, any indication from the devs/reps/info at Gamescon of when its going be released? They are probably wary of releasing too soon as to avoid "fXIV'ing it up".

Of course not hehe. But GW2 is making very good process and what they showed and what you were able to play was massive already. I wouldn't be surprised if they announce a release date early next year. But then again, yeah, if they wanna take more time they are welcome to do so.

i'd agree with chez, heck i'll go as far as saying i liked the very first battle system more then any of them including the one we have now, it needed fixing but instead they scraped it and went another way. it was by far my favorite, it was like campaign battle system but for grinding.

they for sure are fixing alot of things i didn't consider broken, they are dumbing down the game, not fixing it. maybe lot of things are being changed for the future gameplay they see fit for the game, but can't be all of it, like the crafting><

either way, weither i run off and play gw2 and tera, i play lots of hours so it won't hurt my gameplay on ffxiv lol, but then again like i said earlier just small 8man endgame isn't endgame to me, anything with small dungeons has pvp. and that is the endgame. a pve game needs to be bigger and badder on the pve side, it needs major party play pve, and like no other mmo it needs story based missions with party play. i have not been playing other pve games since ffxi because of this, i was like no cutsceens? no mission party plays? ..in a pve game? rpg? mmo? no thanks.... so ffxiv will be no different.

I think the current team of XIV has a severe lack of ambition.

They have fixed some of the basic features but all their new plans seem to aim for mediocrity.

We get airships but there's not even talk of using them in large scale air battles against the massive dragons you see in the intro. Why not? Mh3 does it on the Wii of all things with a far less flexible battle system.

Chocobos are introduced just as mounts instead of battling running massive enemies on land at high speeds. Why? Automatic follow commands existed in XI 10 years ago and AA would make this possible.

Previous team had plans for large scale battles and hamlet defences but even though they had a short timeframe plan to implement them they've been all but forgotten.

Final Fantasy series has tons of epic set pieces that are memorable I would like to see the new team aim a bit higher to achieve something like that in XIV also.

I'm not saying they should copy XI, Aion nor Rift but to create something new and unseen that could interest old players to return.

BTW that video you posted would be completely impossible to do with XIV graphics. For that kind of gameplay to work you need to be able to see other players and monsters from a long distance. This is something XIV's engine just cannot do.

Well technically it's on a boat moving through sand, and you rarely actually fight him. You just kind of pester him with cannonballs until he falls over. They haven't mentioned any of this because Airships aren't even in the game yet. First they're implementing it as transport yes but they haven't said there will never be large battles. Why announce content the game isn't even ready for?

Except they have said they are eventually going to do mounted combat for specific encounters.

They've stated that things like hamlet defense haven't been forgotten, they're just put on the back burner for now since fixing the game's core systems kind of comes first.

On the OP suggestion: I think involving crafters in battles is good ONLY if done properly. As was stated previously involving crafters in battles is what got us the sad excuse for "battles" in the main campaign. Honestly though most of the suggestions involve simply repairing. Why not have them build things, possibly when group crafting is implemented? Doesn't even have to be set stationary objects, they could allow crafters to build and place cannons or other traps mid-battle. These things would probably only be for that specific battle or those large battles just for the sake of balance though.
