Maybe if there are enough aussie to fill up at least 3 servers, so it work with the DF matching system.
Or a aussie server in a japanese server group, located in Tokyo.
Look, I've been playing MMO's since Ultima and Ragnarok Online... I've seen this discussion on literally every. single. MMORPG. The only game that can justify Australian servers is WoW, simply because they have the huge oceanic playerbase to support it. Games like XIV don't have enough Australian/New Zealand players to fill up a server and have a stable economy and active Party Finder. Look at servers like Behemoth, which is considered the NA Oceanic go-to server.... by 11-12pm NZ time you can see the population decline heavily with only one or two groups in the party finder.
I'm not against the idea of Australian servers, I just strongly believe it won't work.. look what happened to WAR, Aion, RIFT and Wildstar. they gave us "Oceanic" labeled servers and after 6 months they closed them and offered free transfers. Simply because there wasn't enough players.
I would love lower ping, I personally think the servers should be in US West instead of Canada, at least that way we can have 150 ping instead of 300 or whatever it is right now.

That I think is the best solution. It will not only benefit AUS/NZ players, but also a majority of US players, which would be their biggest market.

Yeah I would like a Australian sever to! ^-^ but it depends on how many players are from Asutralia and is it worth it. But I think it would be cool would help with lag >~<
I've got a quetion I'm on the sever Behemoth can get around 200 to 300+ ping and was wonder if there are any better severs with less ping in ffxiv I could join or are they all around that high (also I'm from Perth) if not that's okay anyway any other Australians from Behemoth?
I can support this. As an NZ player it would give me the same ping as Tonberry server, which is enough to play effectively and would solve the language barrier issue -- which is a real issue. Whenever I solo DF queue, 99% of the time I'm in a party of players who don't speak English. Been real noticeable with the new content and not being able to explain boss mechanics to the other party members.
For NZ players, the international pipeline appears to enter the US through California, so that would probably be the best US datacentre location for us? How would the servers being based in Cali affect US players?
Another thought I've had is that Hawaii might potentially be a good location? There are surprisingly a lot of players from Hawaii in this game who all play around the same time as oceanic players. Hawaii is like the halfway stop for the oceanic international pipelines before entering the US. Combine Hawaii players with the oceanic players and it might actually be enough people to fill a couple servers. The location wouldn't be terrible latency for California players either, so they could always play on the servers too -- and before anybody criticizes that thought, there are actually US players on Tonberry server even, so I think people would be more open to it than anybody would naturally think.

Im also in Perth playing on Tonberry and get around 120 ping without using anything like WTFast, Pingzapper etc. I'm with iiNet.I've got a quetion I'm on the sever Behemoth can get around 200 to 300+ ping and was wonder if there are any better severs with less ping in ffxiv I could join or are they all around that high (also I'm from Perth) if not that's okay anyway any other Australians from Behemoth?
Australia doesn't really have a huge MMO community to begin with, let alone one that plays XIV. We exist, sure - but not enough to fill a data centre.
Being able to buy the merch would be nice though... I would put that at a higher priority. Even playing on NA servers (provided you use a proxy) isn't that awful these days. Sure, there is a decent amount of latency, but the game is certainly playable with that ping.

It would ultimately depend on the routing to each location. The bulk of the problem for you guys is getting into North America first. You can have around 150+ just getting to Southern California or the Seatle/Vancouver exchange points. Then you have to get forwarded on from there.
A more properly optimized route between Sidney and Montreal can get down close to 200ms (Akamai's route just tested at 211 for me--the bad route clocked 314ms). A poorly optimized route from Sidney to Seattle could still break 200ms. Through the same app, the bad route was 204ms, but the optimized one was 161ms. Here's another interesting contrast: Akamai shows an optimized route from Sidney to Tokyo at 107ms... but the bad one hit 266ms.

How you are routed has a profound impact, and can be more important than the server location in some cases.
This is wholly dependent on where in Australia you are and who your ISP is.
If your ISP is like mine (Exetel) that takes a backwards route to Japan, its literally no different to being on a US server.
If theyre worried about a sparsely populated server, they need only consider that having a server based physically here would entice a lot of people to play, as lower pings compared to other MMOs have incredible value for players.
