    Fishing for money

So I've finally started to lvl my fisher in an attempt to make money since all I ever do is fight things. Gil is looking pretty dismal at the moment, so what is an easy way to make money from fishing? I hear tons of responses from "Fishing isn't the best DOL to make money because it wasn't intended to" ranging to "Sell fat cats from retainer ventures". As such, I've no clue how to make decent gil when I finally get this fisher to 50.

I might also lvl a craft (mainly cul) but since I need basically every crafting class to lvl 50 for cross skills, I honestly don't know how to feel about that...

It's kinda like winning a lottery to be able to "Sell fat cats from retainer ventures". For starters, you need to get your own Fisher to 50, then get your retainer Fisher to 50, then gear them out in melded gear to hit the 408 Gathering cap.

In terms of making steady money, I'm leaning towards no. The only stuff I find that really sells for Fishers would be Sharks (for Shark Oil), and maybe certain Big Fish like Aetherlouse or Worm of Nym (for Zodiac item crafting). 2 or 3 patches ago, Fullmoon Sardines sold rather well, because they were a key ingredient for Deviled Eggs (DPS food for raiding). But these days, everyone uses Lava Toad Legs.

Rothlyt Oyster and Razor Clam should be some steady money though, because they're used for crafting Bouillabaisse (Crafter CP food).

IMO, if you want a steadier income, go with Miner.

Yeah FSH isn't guaranteed income since you can't pick and choose what you're gathering.

Even some of the steady sellers don't seem to break 2-3k.

Fishes used for desynth can go pretty high but as I said, you can't catch them at will

But you can or at least strongly influence.

For instance, http://en.ff14angler.com/spot/30101 shows that the bit rate of hammerheads at the Silver Bazaar on iron (steel) jigs is 75.5%

And this one http://en.ff14angler.com/spot/50103 shows why Midge baskets are better than Syrphid baskets when going for Ninja Betas.

There's quite a number of fish that can be sold on the boards for a decent price, and these fish can be caught fairly regularly as well. Of course, there's also the RNG fish that fetch a decent price.

It's up to you to figure out what those fishies are, since all of us have our own markets we cater to.

Hint: There's usually profit in services. If there isn't, there's usually a reason (cough cough twinthreads)

As my last poster has mentioned, don't rely on fishing as your only source of income.

Emperor fish are 60k on my server right now, for NQ fish. HQ are over 95k. Not easy to catch, but you don't need Supra tool or Forager's gear. I don't think you even need the Artisan rod but I 'm not 100 percent sure.

Leve fish sells well as long as one doesn't spam market board with them. Then there's blacklip oysters, red coral, fisher quest fish, hammerhead and silver sharks, and then the grand company provisions but that's random depending on the fisher's level. One thing I keep doing is that I don't release the fish that's "useless" but keep selling it to npcs instead. That's very tiny income but if you keep at it, at least it'll pay back the tackles!

Fishing is heavily based on rng and a little bit of awareness due to having to press the button to reel in fish.
But min and bot are very organized in terms of gathering and often yeild better results in selling stuff.
